I just got surplussed and trying to understand what exchanges I can bump into. Can anyone answer exactly how the 35 mile exchange rule is calculated in regards to surplus ? Ie do they calculate miles as the crow flies or by actual roads/routes ? Do they measure from the center of an exchange to the center of another exchange ? Or do they measure from the geographical edge of an exchange to the geographical edge of the next exchange ? Asking here because my union representative doesn’t have a clue and can’t get a straight answer. Can’t find the answer in the SE contract either. Would appreciate anyone with experience that’s gone thru this. Thanks.

Take a vacancy or go into the job bank
What if there isn't anothet work center within 35 miles? What happens then? Is there a state list?
in FL there is a spread sheet of all the locations and that is what they use. Who made it or how they determine it, I don't know.
You ever think about calling state. If the local won’t clarify go to the next Union level. The local will usually answer the question when a member says he’s calling state.
town center(court house) to town center. if you use map quest and input city then thisnis how they used to compute it. its not as the crow flies.
They measure based on what benefits the company.
OP here. Thank you all for the replies. Very much appreciate the help.
Center to center as the crow flies. Your local should have a list of all the exchanges within 35 miles of yours if not, contact the district 3 office and they should be able to assist you. Your union officer can also reach out to other presidents or the state representative if they need any clarity or information.
Call cwa 3204 in Atlanta. They normally have the answer vs other cities I have worked in.
As the crow flies divided by pie are square
