Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Layoffs s*ck, of course, but why so much hate?

There’s too much of it these days. Everyone seems to be angry and treat each other like we are all enemies. Not just on this forum but in general.

It’s just f*ck1ng exhausting, isn’t it? Do you feel better after you toss some verbal cr-p at someone?

Don’t you prefer the feeling of walking into a friend’s house for a BBQ, to a child’s birthday party, or just to say hello. This is what most people want regardless of their background so let’s lighten up.

I know I’m dreaming but it’d be great if we could get our sh1t together already.

And for the trolls who’ll want to respond to this with some jabs, feel free, but it would be nice if you took a break today (help a friend or neighbor in need instead).

@q4

OP here.

I’m not exhausted with work just the hate.

I should have been clearer with my post. I wasn’t commenting on the anger at AT&T leadership as I think that is well deserved for lots of reasons.

I was commenting on the crud spewed at each other. We all got our own $h1t to deal with but then most posts here p1$$ on legit folks posting legit issues and concerns. I’ll be happy to get off my pedestal if you do the same and start being decent to your fellow workers who are just trying to make things work for their families.

If you disagree with this sentiment then I hope the best for you on your journey of hate.

I don't feel exhausted. Sounds like you can't handle it

Let me guess, paper pusher, middle age, no deliverables, no stress and no business value.

“ they don't know how to make people happy to work for AT&T.”

You’re missing the point. They do NOT want us “happy”, but (rather) quite the opposite. Those overt Machiavellians have intentionally “toxified” the ‘culture’ to drive folks out “voluntarily” (sans severance).

maybe you should consider following your own advice

Exactly. OP doesn't get that AT&T created this "culture". They like the throw the term "culture change" at people but don't get that they created the horrible culture they are trying to change and all their lame attempts simply are making things worse cause they don't know how to make people happy to work for AT&T.

Years ago when there was a 'layoff', the impacted population was given tons of notice so they could apply for other open positions and remain employed. Heck, I've gone through the 'surplus' machine 4 times. My first time, I was given plenty of notice and interviewed for another job. After this, it happened again, and I was given 6 months' notice!!! And I got another position. The third time, I was allowed to move to another position. The fourth time, I was allowed to move to another position. The thing is that leadership tried to ensure you remained employed. They used to give a 60-day notice. Then it became a 30-day notice. Now, it's 2 weeks. And unless you're 'special' and 'have connections' (and yes, this does exist), you are booted out with no mercy. As for special perks... I know of a situation where one person in Jacksonville, FL was forced to move to Dallas to stay employed. But another person in Jacksonville, FL was allowed to remain there and was placed in a special job title under the local market. So, there's a lack of consistent treatment that's inherently wrong.

Bot post. Don't trust anything that does not reference something specific to AT&T.

Actually employees understand and respect layoffs when done properly. They don’t like it but they get it. It is the attrition tactics to target demographics they no longer want that have created the current environment of abject hatred and dysfunction. It is still the most purely evil thing I have witnessed in my relatively long corporate career.

@bm Don't forget about me! In addition to more jobs in India, I plan to take over many of your jobs with some fun AI scripts. Amazon's CEO said AI is going to take jobs this morning to all of Amazon's employees. I agree!

At least “h8-mongers” are honest & not deceptively capricious like the C suite ‘dark triaders’.

Ok.

But does your reply mean that you prefer or want the hate or that you don’t think it really exists?

This is the culture T has created. don't fool yourself. They are canning people here and hiring in India regardless of what they say on their team calls. In fact, if you don't see what they are saying on the town halls are nothing but bold face lies then you are living with your head in the sand. How many H1B's were let go ? How many orchestrators were let go ? How can you tell that leadership is lying ? "their lips are moving" , that's integrity . great culture. If you aren't convincing your friends and family to ditch T services, then they win.

This is what the T culture is now, has been for about 8 years or so. Push off as much work as possible to other people and be disgruntled about everything. It's not the average employees fault that this is what we are now, it was driven top-down.

@OP, maybe you should consider following your own advice about not tossing verbal cr-p at your (ex)coworkers. Layoffs do su-k for everyone - laid off or not, and preaching about how everyone should be getting their sh-t together just seems inconsiderate.
