Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Heartless Move

I worked at Fiserv for 21 years and went on Cobra when I left. I was diagnosed with two cancers from June to September requiring two surgeries. Cobra was expiring on 10/31 and I had met all deductibles and out of pocket expenses for the plan year. The US DOL suggested I contact the insurance plan administrator at Fiserv to request an extension of cobra to the end of the plan year (12/31) so I could continue with treatment. I did and was rejected. I was told to go to the insurance marketplace, where I will pay a second deductible, additional out of pocket expenses and may have to find new doctors.
Fiserv doesn’t care about people or their lives…

If you have an illness you need to get on FMLA. Once on FMLA you cannot be fired for almost any reason. I know of many that work the system like that, not saying it's right or wrong. It just is a way.

Just being practical here… it would be the same starting January anyway as far as new deductibles.

If the fired you while you were sick it could be actionable. Talk to a lawyer.

To the people downvoting comments symphatic to the OP, i hope you never go through cancer or job loss -- both off these are scary and the OP can use every ounce of support. Be a light in the darkness.

@uvm+1jyaTYxl Fiserv is a self-insured company and HR absolutely gets reporting of how much each employee is costing the company. They actively use those reports to target high cost individuals for elimination when possible. Fiserv also gets to keep all the leftover funds from the premiums paid by employees and not paid out for claims. Don't for a moment think that they are funding your health insurance; the costs are more than covered by the premiums paid for by employees.

They don’t know your medical history - it’s private. Unfortunately a company like Fiserv is not concerned with issues of former employees unless there is a contractual agreement.

They do that because your medical cost come out a fiserv account. It's all fine and good when they collect out premiums. And because they pay the bill they know if your having health issues even if you dont share it with your manager.

That's very sad and heartless. It's not just cancer either. They've cleaned house on others with things like MS too. It's vile for a company that repeatedly posts stuff about how much they "care" about employees.

Sorry that happened. You are right. I know of two people who were let go years ago once it was known that they had cancer.
