Thread regarding Northwestern Mutual layoffs

Parking Update

No update other than they can’t figure out the parking problem but they want to pass the cost onto employees. The good news is there will be 40 parking spots for when the new Walmart opens in the tower next to the 5th version of Starbucks and the 7 Eleven. The 1st version of Olive Garden is also coming soon. So much to be thankful for at NM.

@43h That's hilarious. The company needs to tighten the belt, make "hard choices" to lay off people and departments, cut benefits, and the list can go on. Yet, $600,000 for a handful of parking spots?

Why are these "leaders" destroying a once great company?

The great minds at NML solved the problem. The company just paid $600,000 for the 18 car parking lot next to the Van Buren building. Only 2982 more spots left to find before 2027.

@1zn Outside a nightclub after midnight. Don’t be scared. You’ll be home in your suburban bed by then.

No one wants to acknowledge the mass shooting that left 2 dead just blocks from the NM headquarters downtown?

@1hj There are some parts of Milwaukee that have higher levels crime. But to suggest that the entirety of Milwaukee is a war zone demonstrates your lack of ability to sort fact from fiction. It’s like you’ve succumbed to the media who want to paint with a broad brush when reality is far more nuanced. And honestly, go work for a suburban company if you’re more comfortable. The great thing is that you have a right to choose who you work for, provided someone else wants you.

No armed officers, no crime, tons of space to expand, and free parking in Franklin. Let's close down that campus. That decision was about as good as the one to buy Learnvest.

@1h You must be one of Cavalier's cousins if you don't think Kilwaukee is dangerous. Daily mu---rs, mass killings, and too many other major crimes to put on the news. The Mayor reluctantly released the city crime report. You are up in the clouds if you think Kilwaukee is safe. Ask yourself why the Tower needs 3 armed MPD officers during the day.

@f4 you can't be serious with this. You really think you are entering a warzone walking around in DT MKE? You need to get out more.

@f4 If you think NM’s campus is in a war zone, you should be looking for a job in your suburban bubble. Good luck.

There are several fast bus routes that drop passengers off right at the front door on Wisconsin and Cass. With NM paying half of the MCTS Commuter Value Pass, riding the bus is $37.50/month. And before you say something awful about people who ride the bus, most of the people are reading or playing a game on their smartphone.

The parking situation is just another way to get employees to leave so they don’t need to lay them off and pay severance. It is effectively a $3000 pay cut on top of other travel expenses.

Time for a nice light rail to be put in along 94 - imagine a morning commute where you can read instead of getting cut off by speedy speedsters!

I would be more worried about getting shot or robbed in the city of Milwaukee than I would about the cost of parking. Requiring employees to report to ground zero inside a war zone shows the lack of concern for their wellbeing.

You can always park in the Cathedral Square garage managed by Power Parking. You get used to the ur--e stench and your car only gets broken into once a month

What parking problem? Find a lot. Pay. Park. People have been doing that all over the country and Milwaukee for decades.

If you think that’s an impossible problem to solve or somebody else needs to figure it out for you, maybe you should find a job in Cudahy or Stallis or wherever it is you live to work and walk there.
