Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Career ceiling

Promotions here shouldn’t require insider trading-level networking skills. It seems that if you want to get promoted you have to leave.

@zg dont worry those new VPs will leave BNY in under 2 years. To advance here all you need to do is stick around. Skill is not a prerequisite at BNY, don't delude yourself.

You wouldn't be here complaining if you were actually good, you would have a better job at a better firm. Keep bending over backwards for BNY I'm sure they'll notice someday

@e9 same here. But now they're hiring people with zero skill and have them starting at VP level. Yet they are getting higher pay then me, bonuses i dont get and i have to tell them how to do their job so i can do mine on top of resolving issues they caused and cant figure out how to correct. This place is a freaking joke

When i was promoted to vp it took over two years. In those two years I had to literally ki-l myself and volunteer for alot of bs. Finally I was thrown into a project management side role to prove I can handle being a vp. That project was a major disaster that required 13 meetings a day. Upper management was too cheap to get a project manager so they put me in. After over 20 years with the company this was how I was supposed to "prove" myself worthy of being a vp. On top of that, I had to do a whole write up as to why I deserve to be vp and all my accomplishments. This write up as initially rejected because it wasn't good enough. Anyway, long story short I am now a vp and I don't see the stupid big deal they made it out to be.
