Thread regarding Microsoft Corp. layoffs

Double down on AI and let your worries melt away.

Really pour all that you have, all that you know into the AI knowledge bank. Your jobs are safe and secure. Keep developing AI and help make it streamlined. Everything else will all just work out. Take college courses on coding, scripting and programming. All the rumors of those jobs being under threat via AI is a huge farce. Burn the midnight oil, sacrifice all of your spare time and weekends on learning coding. It can only benefit you in the future. Trust me on this….you are not in danger of losing your job to AI.

Politics trumps AI all day long. Still surviving 20+ years later with too many promotions to count and many stock/RSU grants. Internal networking and politics are the best defense against any reduction in force. You think working 10–16-hour day and sacrificing your personal time will help you that much? Same with AI. It might help very little with so much more work and you are still at risk. Be smart about this. Once you get hit with a RIF, then you understand not to pour your heart out for any company and work smarter.

All is well. Just learn large language model and you’re good to go. It’s something you can just hammer out over the weekend and BAM!!!! Instant job on Monday, instant promotion on Tuesday. Easy peezy.

I understand the hesitation around unionizing, but , having some form of collective bargaining body is the most timely and practical path forwrd... Time is running short IMHO- and many are rightly concerned about losing career momentum, being asked to carry underperformers etc... or seeing jobs moved elsewhere. Without stable employment thse concerns become 2ndary.... Taking some action (will be imperfect), is likely to make a better outcome for tech workers than doing nothing. Just my thoughts, and I know how much Unions are hated around here.
