Removing Atelio makes sense. It was never a good idea to have multiple embedded finance plays in market, especially having one with a different name and branding. Our banking customers were confused by it. And financial intelligence should sit as a horizontal across a BaaS play. However, it still really su-ks that talented engineers are losing their jobs in this market due to easily foreseeable problems with positioning.

It's clear that FIS is strategically restructuring—through targeted divestitures, business unit realignments, and sweeping workforce reductions—not only to streamline operations but also to position itself as a more attractive acquisition target or to align more seamlessly with the strategic ambitions of Global Payments. These moves are being marketed as part of a larger digital transformation, often cloaked in the language of AI and innovation.

However, internally, the story is far less polished. Morale has plummeted amid ongoing layoffs, lack of communication, and a pervasive sense of uncertainty. Employees are left questioning leadership’s vision, while institutional knowledge drains from the organization at an alarming rate. This level of disruption is already affecting productivity and cross-functional trust—and the long-term damage to culture, employer brand, and operational continuity may far outweigh the short-term financial optics driving these decisions.

This is the already known Atelio RIF. The remote employees were let go immediately and many of the ones in Bellevue were given 60 days notice. That's where the September 15th date comes from.
