Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

The real lucky ones

If you think you're lucky because you weren't laid off, think again.

Those who were laid off:

  • Got severance.
  • Are out of this mess and can finally start planning their future.
  • Can take time to recover from Intel’s toxic environment.
  • No longer have to live under the threat of layoffs.

Those still here:

  • Are expected to pick up the slack for those who are gone.
  • Are stuck in an environment that's growing more toxic by the day.
  • Have to live with the constant anxiety of who’s next.

So really, who’s the lucky one?

OP, I disagree with most of your premises.

  1. I received no severance but I'm still working and making good money.
  2. Sure, Intel is a mess but I can deal with with the issues in my sphere.
  3. Yes, Intel is toxic but see #2.
  4. I wasn't worried about this layoff and I'm not worried about the next. I do believe there will be a next.
  5. I'll pick up the slack where I can, but I can only do so much in the day. I'm not going to go to any extremes to meet unrealistic expectations. If I put in an honest day's work and thing don't get done, I can still sleep well at night.
  6. I can deal with the toxicity. See #2
  7. I can deal with anxiety. See #2

I've been very fortunate to work at Intel and I've made decent money, even as a lowly technician. I'll stay here as long as they let me and if/when (probably when) they let me go, I'll take my skills elsewhere.

100% agree OP. I was "spared" (whole group had 0 layoffs) and I'm currently interviewing, looking to get out ASAP. That severance money would have been nice.

Stupid Troll Post

The lucky ones are still working at a job they enjoy.

OP is clearly not one of them, and may have never worked at Intel.

Just another stupid delusional ranter.

@a2 What a remarkably dense response to a reasonable post. Let's look at your comments 1 by 1. First, yes every job has the possibility of ending. That doesn't mean a constant threat of arbitrary layoffs like what's happening at Intel. It doesn't mean the stress of losing your job for no reason other than the poor choices by leadership isn't a thing. The environment isn't toxic? Do they breathe air on your planet? Next: "picking up slack isn't real..." Wow. Just...wow. Picking up slack in ANY job is a real thing. When your team has 10 people and 5 of them get let go, the work they were doing doesn't go with them. It gets redistributed to the ones still left. "If you are someone with not horrible character"? Attacking peoples' character for not wanting to take on the job of 2 or 3 extra workloads shows just how little character you have. And finally, "do you best". How about you "do you best" at learning to speak properly.

I think the lucky one were folks in low cost geo where layoff happen in high cost geo and project move to low cost geo to fill the gap due to layoff. Seen this happening right now in edge. This going be trend moving forward, offshore our work

Every job has the possibility of ending. Thats not a factor. The environment isn’t toxic in the slightest.

Picking up slack isn’t real if you are someone with not horrible character. Do you best, nothing more nothing less. Go home satisfied every day knowing that.

Couldn’t be happier.
