Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

How do people know what areas will be hit each Tuesday?

Is there any way to tell? Any indicators? I find it hard to believe that every other Tuesday a random area gets hit with no advance notice.

@cb I don’t really get that. If you’re laying someone off, and they’re getting severance, why should you need a performance-based justification? At least if they’re in an at-will employment state, they could be let go for any reason that’s not related to being a protected class (there doesn’t need to be a reason at all).

They only need a paper trail to term someone if it’s without notice period and severance, either for cause or for performance, the latter of which they’d likely put them on a PIP first.

Maybe your manager gave you the bad review because they were hoping it would motivate you to leave before they actually had to lay you off, thus saving WFC the severance. But I don’t see why they’d have needed a paper trail.

The surprise Lay off just happened to me yesterday, a Tuesday. No one saw it coming. I was in the Charlotte HUB, supposedly safe. I have great mid-year and Y/E reviews. 2 of my peers in Charlotte and 1 in NJ also laid off yesterday. All over 50, with Senior Control Management Titles.

It’s different for everyone as I have heard so many different ways it happens…a text while on PTO a last second meeting invite an email or a tap on the shoulder no warning or sometimes a warning. Using common sense about parts of the company are scaling back (ie home mortgage) sometimes poor performance or sometimes not. AI will eventually get most of us laid off.

I know when my review came in bad after 2 decades of solid feedback. 4 weeks from date of review. They wanted a paper trail.

Unless you're in the impacted group and have received additional Intel, it's really just a general knowledge based on past experience and utterances from the execs. Like remotes, or non-cores, or buildings they have announced will close "by (insert date here)". Word travels fast through the grape vine, but it's a large company and there's enough silos that you often don't get solid info until people drop off teamworks.

For most of the layoffs, I think the employees know its coming. I know that mine is coming in a year or two. In truth, I am looking forward to it.

If manager starts avoiding regular one-on-one calls, and/or the manager’s demeanor towards employee changes with no apparent reason, the chances are they know about the impending displacement.

When I got displaced. I just received an email from our higher up manager, not my immediate manager, and meeting was for 11:00am. Just me as the invitee. I knew what that meant since my team member did not get a meeting invite. And I have been thru this before, had 4 different managers in 6 mos. Wells does not care about us, they want to make it as miserable as possible so people will just quit. Which actually worked, we did lose 1 TM, couldn’t handle it anymore. Desktop utilization, and upping the % so it is hard to meet, especially if you have meetings. My advice is buckle up, gonna be a crazy ride, and take advantage of any overtime that they would offer you. And bank the extra $.

@a9+1k0m39bvk in my situation, there was no meeting scheduled the day or night before. Manager contacted me out of the blue. pinged me on Teams and asked if i had a few minutes to talk and talk could not wait; he rarely communicated with me. Tuesday after payday so i knew what call was about. Displaced. So don't assume a meeting with manager or HR scheduled. Managers also ambush on teams.

They just lie about whatever group they have a grudge against. There are a lot of obsessive headcases who post here.
