I guess its still cheaper to get overseas labor and deal with the cumbersome h1b1 process. h1b1 isn't about quality labor. I see the process going on with people at my company and it takes months for them to get approved and it drags the employee back into india or wherever to get it approved. some quit and find new jobs because the wait is so long. h1b1 cultivates zero talent. none. zilch. h1b1 saves money on health benefits and 401k payouts and salary. in fact its pretty demeaning to foreign workers

We had a job advertised in the system for an onshore technical job and 90% of candidates had Indian last names, most were referred by other Indians in the company. Almost all of them needed visa sponsorship and stupid AT&T even pays for their permanent application and attorney fees as an acceptable practice. You need a Dept of Company Efficiency (DOCE) to root out all this waste at AT&T.

@bj I have yet to see a single H1B person who could do my job. 99% are low skilled individual’s who only got the job because another Indian hired them!

H1Bs are not the only issue and probably not the biggest. Companies are offshoring whole departments to managed services companies in India, Mexico, Ireland, etc. Any back office function they can...IT, finance, HR, etc. It has to stop. The middle class in the US is disappearing. I don't know who these companies think are going to buy their goods and services when no one is employed, since most of their revenue today comes from the US. Meanwhile they continue to get tax breaks and contracts from the US government.

"These are global companies with global customer base. Why wouldn't they hire globally?"

While it does make sense to hire globally to support sales in the areas you earn revenue (it might be required by some countries to open that market), you might want to protect the largest market you have. AT&T earned more than 95% of its revenue in the US. Mexico was the next largest contributor around 3.5%. All of Asia contributed less than .4%.

“There's a reason businesses hire h1b candidates. It's not because they're cheap.”

BS!!! That’s the ONLY reason those crumbs are hired!

Where are the smart, hard working, qualified Americans?

There's a reason businesses hire h1b candidates. It's not because they're cheap. No one will buy damaged goods even for free.

What you guys are complaining is not making sense to me. Here's what you're saying.

"We are super smart, hardworking, skilled Americans delivering value to the business. We are being replaced by cheap, young, poorlyeducated, unskilled Indians. This is a big scam the businesses have undertaken in collusion with the Indians. We have to fix problems caused by these guys. "

Help me understand. Why would any business get rid of its valuable, skilled employees & replace them with f-ools? How will you run a business like that? Imagine Apple hires people with inferior skills and replces their best. I guarantee you, the company will stop to exist. People and their skill are the most valuable asset of these companies. In fact top companies are said to pay in millions for top tech talent.

I suspect companies don't see value in what you're delivering. They find that similar skilled people are available outside the county and can provide better value. What you need to do is upskill, try harder, and move to places where the top paying jobs are. There are plenty of tech jobs available, it's just that one needs to be skilled.

While you might think you deserve the job because if your nationality, that's simply true. These are global companies with global customer base. Why wouldn't they hire globally?

Trump issued a warning too. I hope serious reform is coming. I would end H1B if I could.
