Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

The only reason anyone’s still at T is because there’s nowhere else to go

People aren’t staying because they’re happy, they’re staying because there’s nowhere else to go. The moment job market improves, I expect to see a major exodus from here.

There are a ton of places to go. The sad fact is T infantilizes people. They make you feel like you are doing something important when actually you are serving an evil empire of sc-m. They make you dependent and soft. Have some ba--s and tell them to F off. They are sc-m and if you still work there you are sc-m. Sad but true.

AT&T needs to implement term limits for CEO at 5 years.

“The market is insane right now. I have applied for nearly 200 jobs and only gotten a couple of nibbles”

The job market is indeed horrible. If you know anyone (especially anyone around or over the age of 50) , you know this to be true. Go on LinkedIn and look around. It’s far from just former T employees that are having a hard time. Everyone is.

That said, your methodology is flawed if you are simply blindly applying. Half of them probably aren’t even really openings. You have to have, and utilize a personal network of contacts to help you . If you don’t have one, you need to start building one.

“ Not really considering the outdated skill level of a majority of employees.”

Nice projection.

Lol, the entitlement of reps in that office is so toxic. No wonder the office in San Diego closed down. San Diego union did nothing but defend and protect lazy workers who would take advantage of getting paid $40+ an hour to do the bare minimum. Only a matter of time till the T office closes too. San Diego reps are the cancer.

Pretty much. Been applying for a while now. Market is just terrible. No, my skills are not outdated. Everyone is cutting headcount.

LOL - you just identified the problem with Stank's plan. The ones that Stank wants the least will stay, and the best and brightest will leave. That is a great plan for the future. Of course, the Stank can afford to be myopic because his tenure is ending within a couple years also. He just needs to ride out a few years and hope his strategy outlives his tenure by a couple of years so he can blame the down turn on his successor.

@OP

Staying purely out of spite. Every day here is a new opportunity to malinger. To waste resources. To slow output and reduce quality. To foster miscommunication and misunderstanding. To introduce subtle misinformation into documentation.

I've got a lot of work ahead of me so let's hope my remaining time here is long.

The market is insane right now. I have applied for nearly 200 jobs and only gotten a couple of nibbles. I still don’t regret my choice to resign. Luckily I have a spouse that works and with some minor adjustments, we will be OK. For any of those of you out there that also has a spouse that works that could cover the bills with only some minor adjustments…I highly recommend it. It’s not worth torturing yourself for Satan spawn pricks.
