Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Is in office 5 days a week mandatory?

I see a couple jobs in Atlanta/Alpharetta I’m interested in, however the rec stipulated 5 days in office. Is that a hard rule, or is that dependent on the organization/leadership? Thanks

Now hear me out, just a thought! With the seating and parking issues that we have, why hasn't the idea of 4x10 been brought up? This could potentially reduce these topics by 20% if it was planned correctly! They would still get their 40 hours in the office, but allow a day during the week to allow us to get personal stuff done that can't be done on weekends. They probably won't go for it because they feel like they are giving in, but it may boost morale a smidge!

You guys keep saying this like you hope/wish it really was true. Not sure why.

It's not. There's more flexibility, for some, than the black-and-white thinkers can comprehend.

Just because some are forced to trundle in like obedient little worker drones, it doesn't mean that everyone is.

Absolutely not, it's merely a suggestion.

Let's be honest with each other. There is discretion over how this is enforced. It depends on what you know and/or who you know.

@e6 If you work while taking leave you can be terminated for that alone, because it puts the company in a legally actionable position. Stop putting yourself at risk and let the system fail. They made the policy, now make them see the consequences.

@e6

"What Legg org is that?"

I have had the same experience as you ever since we went 5x in July. Doc appointment -- take sick time, repair at the house -- take vacation, need something done before Monday -- either be counted in the office or it does not count from home.

What Legg org is that??
Cohens org has the harshest 5x8 in the company with no exceptions. I had to use vacation days to have my HVAC first repaired, then replaced. It was a release week so I still worked from home.

Your kid is sick? Take caregiver but be sure you work from home all day so you don't risk the release schedule.

Yes, it's mandatory you go into the office 5 days a week for no less than 8 hours a week. And be flexible to volunteer your weekends when asked with zero pay or compensation time. Welcome to AT&T.

I left vz last year with a big nut. Telcos are telcos, so it really comes down to work life balance and currently from what you guys have explained t is at the bottom. I hope your leaders come around. Good luck.

OP - and yet you remain

What makes you think they remain? They may not even be an employee since they were referencing an interest with respect to positions in Atlanta. T-Mobile has their own problems, but nothing like the issues that AT&T has. T-Mobile is hiring the severanced AT&T employees. Maybe they were released by T-Mobile

Is this post a joke? Or are you new here? MANDATORY!!

Depends on the org. My org requires 5 days, others that work around me only required to do 3.

If you work for Legg, 5x8 is merely a suggestion. Very few in the Legg org work 3x8, er I mean RTO 3x8, most work a maximum of 1x8 or 1-2 hours per day.

Not just mandatory but strictly enforced with invasive tracking. Laptop LAN connection time via network pings, COU geofencing, GPS thumb drive you must carry with you and plug into your laptop to authenticate, inaccurate average hours reports, gaslighting when mentioning the inaccuracy of said report, the list goes on…

“ The rules are on a sliding scale. The whiter and older you are, well, you know.”

Exactly. White, middle age+ & straight males are in their crosshairs. Bank on it.

That’s horrible. Most, if not all of the other telcos promote hybrid in office flexibility. I’ll look elsewhere. Thanks for the info for those who responded.

Wait. Don’t go. The previous posters didn’t tell you everything. The rules are on a sliding scale. The whiter and older you are, well, you know. So take a second look. You might be passing up a great opportunity here.

Unless the job posting says hybrid or specific days in the office, assume it is 5xRTO.

Required and tracked. Very little wiggle room for anyone. Got a Dr appt? Have to take personal time. Yet they still expect you to work 5x8 minimum (expect nights and weekend work also that doesn’t count). RUN! This place su-ks. Everyone looking to leave.

If you’re looking for new employment I would look elsewhere. This is not a good place to be. 5 days by 8 hours is the mandatory minimum, and is tracked to the minute with an average hours report that usually shorts you on time by 30-60 minutes per day.

If you don’t comply you will be contacted by your leadership or simply terminated. There is zero flexibility with the rule, so don’t expect any wiggle room. The culture is completely sh!t, the only thing they care about right now is making sure there’s butts in seats for 5 days 8 hours a week.

It is supposed to be a hard rule. Some orgs might let you work from home after a doctor appointment or if you have a repairman at your house. But not mine.... we are forced to take personal time.
