They care about the debt. Been awhile since they have been able to make major purchases. Interesting that FWA is now something they need. Wasn’t a issue for the past 4-5 years even though our competitors have been using it to gain a lot of market share.

“ We don’t seem to care about the debt anymore.”

Did they ever care about it? Certainly not the current cast of Machiavellians.

Between Lumen fiber and this (if FCC approves both) that’s close to 30 billion next year. Hopefully these aren’t the stupid TW types of acquisitions. Looks like core business so hoping for the best.

FCC ordered them to put it in use or get rid of it.

Idk much about how much this should have cost, just that we have a tendency to way overpay. $23b sure seems like A LOT for some spectrum. If it was so valuable why weren’t they using it? If they were using it, why sell it? I’m guessing we sell it for about $1 or 2b in a few years.

AT&T will spend $23 billion to acquire certain wireless spectrum licenses from EchoStar, a significant expansion of AT&T’s low- and mid-band coverage networks.

AT&T said Tuesday that the licenses cover virtually every U.S. market — more than 400 total — which the company plans to deploy as soon as possible to lure more home internet subscribers and meet its growth goals.

The deal also fortifies the long-term services agreement between AT&T and EchoStar, enabling the latter to operate as a hybrid mobile network operator providing wireless service under its Boost Mobile brand. AT&T will be the primary network services partner to EchoStar.

Shares of EchoStar, based in Englewood, Colorado, soared 76% at the opening bell Tuesday.

“This acquisition bolsters and expands our spectrum portfolio while enhancing customers’ 5G wireless and home internet experience in even more markets,” said AT&T CEO John Stankey.

I remember when leadership used to scoff at FWA. Laugh at TMO and VZ for going all-in on it then we decided to launch Internet Air way late. Totally agree for us to focus on fiber first but it's laughable when we act like FWA was part of our strategy from the start. It was not.

AT&T: Masters of amassing Debt and Losing Billions on every single failed Acquisition, merger, spinoff, and Divestiture. But hey, don’t charge that hour of Overtime or ask for any supplies to get the work done! 🤦🏽‍♂️

They borrowed to pay for it. Furthermore, the tax bill helps since this is capital money being invested in the company. Instead of buying AI chips, T is buying spectrum. Your raises and bonuses are from a different pot.
In general T should make all the bonuses at 15% for all levels of management. I don’t think a 4th level deserves a higher bonus payment just because they are a AVP.

Again, $23B and we're not getting any innovation out of it. We're simply trying to catch up for the fixed wireless broadband. AT&T talks about change but their ability to do nothing more than buy other companies/assets is all this executive team is capable of. In this case, they are paying $23B for what Echostar paid about $14B for and is about $5B more than what the spectrum is worth. So that's about on par for Stanley's ability to deal.

Simply cannot understand how a company with an outstanding debt of $143 billion - that is about to lose billions on its sale of AT&T Mexico, after its $5B purchase of Lumen - can justify spending $23 billion on spectrum. Sure it’s going to expand Internet Air but ROI??? Idk. Typical Stankey though - $$ doesn’t seem to matter unless you’re forcing workers out and saving on severance payouts.

We don’t seem to care about the debt anymore.

Anyway, yes will probably be used to explain subpar bonuses in March. But the different between us getting a “good” bonus and us getting a “bad” bonus isn’t really a huge amount when you’re talking about 23 billion on the other hand.

I don’t love it but at least it’s within our current business. T is getting a lot of spectrum in the low and mid bands.
And yeah, low raises and bonuses going forward.
