Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Rumor, signal inspection reduction.

Rumor is the FRA is going to allow for less frequent signal inspections. Crossings will go from monthly to quarterly inspection intervals. Yes this would free up time for signal maintainers to work supporting maintenance of way which is very much needed, but as always this is causing fears of further headcount reductions to the signal dept. What this doesnt address is the constant need for additional headcount for trouble calls. With current staffing levels there still isnt enough employees available for trouble calls.

And they are working on downsizing track inspectors. Waiver to take track inspections from eight a month to two a month was submitted in April and is expected to be granted (as well as several other waivers) autonomous inspections to fill the void. It won't rid all the inspectors, but it WILL downsize them. I have only sat in on a couple of the meetings for near future proposed changes, and can tell you that our upper management team wants to fast track other such changes like this under this administration, knowing they will likely get approved through waivers submitted.

HA they will use that as an excuse to.cut back more and extend territories, trust me it's not gonna help the workers.
