Lawyers are Expensive

Hi folks.

Is it possible to share learning from discussions with lawyers in an open platform like this? The reason I am asking is that it is too expensive to consult everything with lawyers, and not all of them are good anyways.

Kindly share your findings.

Best thing to do is find someone who has used a lawyer and can recommend one.

The way it works is there is something called "Common Law". Basically if there is a standard practice in an industry, it effectively becomes a law. For example, its common to give 1 month severance per year worked. Thus that would be considered "Common Law". (I thought it was odd because, why not just make that a law then rather than make up a law based on common practices but what do I know. Lawyers got to make money somehow I guess)

The rule of thumb you should get between 2 weeks to 1 month severance per year you have worked. If you don't get that and you worked more than 10 years, then it would be cost affective to hire a lawyer (assuming you are a well paid professional).

Hope that helps.
Hopefully you get to keep your job and this won't be an issue.

Some severances are fair and others for experienced hires are not and legal action is the answer

@am I am not a lawyer. If I was one, I would have retired with millions in my bank account. 😊

While general info can be useful, everybody's case is unique and you should consult a lawyer individually when and if the time comes
