Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

ExxonMobil Needs to be Competative..... Sure.... BUT!!

ExxonMobil is trying to reduce OpEx by reducing number of engineers in North America (USA and Canada) and offshoring the jobs to cheaper countries like India.

But is it really working? I see BTC folks come here, work for some time in North America, and then go back to India and quit. They go to a competing company at a higher salary. All the time spent training them in North America is wasted.

How does that make sense from cost reduction perspective? And how will all the technical knowledge be retained??

BTC and KLTC are fu--ing disasters. Every zoom call there are 26 on the call all of them charging to the project with only 2 talking. Heaven forbid you catch something they fu---d up on during the 30% review. That turns into 4 weeks of recycling with 6 different “engineers” calling you at all hours of the night looking for clarification for the same fu--ing thing.

I would say the majority of engineers aren’t even needed at XOM. When you build a facility off of the same plans as the last one why do you need a bunch of engineers that aren’t really contributing anything if value.
We need to decrease engineers, safety, planner, and schedulers to remain competitive.

Unless the fake WAEM campaign changes, nothing will change here. XOM is unique in that the less skills you have the more louder you. The mgmt. likes these louder, cunning, back stabbers, and koolaid drinkers. In fact, the skills and competency framework must included these as skills.

Also, Indian don't care (rightfully so). All the western companies sending all jobs (pick a company) to India has created a candidates market and a tons of opportunities to jump around while collecting anywhere between 10 to 70% uplift in salaries. So why shouldn't they keep jumping the ship until they cant.

Everyone is pointing fingers at the problem but no one wants to acknowledge and point out the root cause of all of it. And the root cause is a never ending greed of CEOs collecting higher and higher pay packages at any expense, usually employees are the casualties as an easy fix masking all of the mgmt. incompetence.

Nothing will work. Unless they fire all the incompetent managers, they managed to survival the last layoff… workers get sla-ghtered.

There is a need to cut down on the expats too. Local package or FIRE them!
