Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Positive changes in the future

I don't believe that I will be here to see it, but I wish for the sake of those who will that some change for the better will happen at Macy's this year.

Is there any hope for that?

I worked at Macy’s and other retailers for a really long time. Climbing the ladder from my teens to my 20s. As a CXM I was treated horribly.
PTO- denied.
Hours 8-5? More like 8-7 with no extra pay.
Tried to stay in my lane and work with my team? Too bad- ISM ruined that even though I had certain specialty sales.

All of that could have not mattered to me if my boss said they appreciated me and were proud. But it never happened. I’d spend whole days re-merchandising based off the ever changing standards, which are a constant change.

I finally am saying my good thing coming- is leaving. I don’t want to work for a place that doesn’t respect my time, and even when I give it my all- they only want more. I have a life to live and so do all of you. All of my team had their PTO approved, schedules accommodated and I made sure to do for them what my boss did not. Tell them how much I appreciated them.

Bringing age into the workplace brings negativity- and I promise when you think we are being lazy as CXMs… we are probably on 8 HR calls for different investigations. Or doing a meeting forced on us by Macy’s that takes 4 hours.

Very badly run company for sure and nothing like it used to be Even back to when TL ran the company it was better. Seeing some very incompetent management with NCR as well.

Hopefully they will clean out the house of the ineffective store leaders and begin with six-two-one.

I am a millennial and I agree about the younger managers. They are lazy and useless and don’t know anything. They don’t want to do any type of physical work and think they are better than thou. If you are a sales manager especially in a clothing department, you have to get down and dirty and help clean the floor and various other things not just walk around or sit in the office all day. It isn’t an administrative job. I like the managers they hire with experience.

I know few managers at this point who started as colleagues, especially younger ones. They come out of college programs. There is no ladder anymore for hourly store colleagues.

Millennials and Gen Z = Lazy.
Many of the young managers have been hired from outside the company.
When they come to Macy’s and see what is expected many of them they leave within a very short time. The younger generations feel that they are entitled and don’t want to do physical work.
I know more about Macy’s culture than you will ever know. Your Mommy and Daddy are probably still paying your rent.

The managers were formerly hourly colleagues dummies!! That’s why they are young. They worked their way up!! They work harder than the 50+ yr old sitting in the office waiting to collect their retirement and pension.

You don’t know anything about Macy’s culture

If it weren’t for the 50plus senior managers and hourly employees Macy’s would no longer be in existence.

Any of the new young managers coming in are lazy, arrogant, unprofessional, no sense of urgency, don’t know how to merchandise or manage any situation from employees to customers. These “kids” are hired and come to work looking like they are going to do lawn work, they don’t want to do any physical work, they cannot communicate or have a professional conversation, they want to work minimal hours and sit in their offices. They have no idea what is going on with the business.

Whenever there is a problem they run to the 50plus crowd to fix the problem and cover up their incompetence.
That my friend is why Macy’s is in the shape it is in. That plus the major disaster of ISM.

But wait according to Jeffrey all is well.

First. It's just retail!!
Second. Store level managment/ people leaders are horrible!!!!!!!!!
Corpporate need to flush out the store level OLD long time leadership that needs to retire now!!!
Year 50age+in age leadership don't even know how to use a computer tablet if not even a calculator. Time for imidated retirement for them. Thanks for your service. More training for new leadership so guessing at the answer would not be a needed disposition.
Third. Macys is a great company!!!! Macys should not be brought down to lower levels due to those who cannt move on or retire in grace. You loše such great new talent because old barnacle on a flourising ship will not release and move on.
Good luck.

I thought macys doesnt age discriminate ? but hey what do i know... sips tea....

Mobile teams is next. Imagine being able to pick up shifts at your nearby sister store. Starbucks already implements this.

Old barnacle speaking. I've noticed that alot if this fresh young talent that you speak of is lazy as sh-t. I may not be up on all the tech but I can unload 1600 carton trucks, get it to the floor, set a sale do price changes, rtvs empty fitting rooms and give great customer service. Just because your tech smart doesn't mean you have common sense. We are the people keeping the merchandise flowing plus work the floor. Alot of the new hires don't want to do anything other than ring. Don't give me that cr-p . ISM needs to go

Positive change would be more store closures. Open more Market by Macys and Bloomies in off mall locations. Build more standalone Backstage stores. Allow EV companies to build infrastructure on Macys owned land in their parking lots. Leverage in store food and beverage to keep the customer in the store.

Not until they get rid of Jeffrey and his band of puppets plus purge at least fifty % of the clueless store leaders.
