Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

My bosses boss let me go, never spoke to him before today - very disrespectful! I have been with the company 16 years

I am also almost 60, anyone else this age getting let go?

@1stc,
Or his boss's boss has changed 3 times per year for the last decade like mine has. Then they wonder why only people in the trenches know what's going on.

The executive team should be ashamed of themselves. I’m a current employee and I see a massive percentage of jobs in the process of being outsourced to India. Bny is a founding banking institution nearly as old as this country. How can this executive team justify handing these American jobs to another country and exploit those citizens by paying them Pennie’s on the dollar. Shame shame

We were told yesterday evening that no one from our group will be laid off.
It's only 3 of us.
Our group will most likely gone by end if year or next January.
We are being automated of our job.
Will use this year to learn new skills and hopefully move into another role.

I am sorry to hear people with much service being laid of but if your bosses boss has never spoken to you it sounds like you were pretty invisible and flying under the radar.
Companies want more from employees

Sorry to hear the news, I worked only 7 years here but they have been doing this for a while. I work in tech- our group had 500 + now it is about 150. More than half of that 150 are new and have very little 'banking' experience. Also they hired a lot in the India within our group- not sure how many though. Makes sense for them, because my Boss straight up told me we can hire 7 people in India for what we pay you. Im in 40s and actually looking forward for the "teams" invite so I can actually spend time to find a new job. I did work with some great people and they seem to be scarce everyday. At the end of the day this bank is in downward spiral and at some point in our lives it may reach a breaking point - not wishing it in anyway . If you look at the bigger picture you are better off not working here as there is less resources to go around every year and they need to get more out of every employee to be functional.

Yes, over 60 years old. Sounds like age discrimination from a company who boasts about anti discrimination and inclusion. Should We contact an attorney?

They want Directors and above to do the layoffs. So either your boss isn't a director, or you boss is also on the list.

Speaks volumes about BNY and your boss's character. Another solid idea from the HR braintrust.
