Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Decline in morale

The drop in morale and productivity is very noticeable. There is no job stability, people who add value are not respected enough, and of course all this results in a drop in morale.
I'm just curious how the leadership intends to restore that morale or do they no longer think much about its importance?

Since the layoffs were announced last month, not only has there been a drop in morale, but I am seeing an exodus of tenured and very knowledgeable colleagues who were not affected. This in itself is quite demoralizing to witness and leaves you with a sense of hopelessness about the future of this company.

I hear that. I’ve lost my 2 most senior DT engineers this month. We’re screwed.

I sleep at night just fine, its a job, you do your best during the day, and are aware of the politics at hand. We work these jobs for our family and while several times I have sacrificed valuable time with them due to the idea that time was better spent working. look at all the other boards about LRs and be happy with what you have , as anyone who has worked at Cisco for more than 5 years is able to weather the storm easily. Moan and complain , be miserable, but be sure no one at work gives a minute thinking about your welfare, when its your time ,move on and get over it. sad part is the amount of money wasted by companies on being WOKE and diverse, its just pandering to the mob.

After 22 years of layoffs at Cisco in a world where this has been going on for 40 years you’re all just starting to get disenchanted?

How can we the ones left sleep at night…

Over 800 million people are starving and 9 million of them die outright each year as a result. 50 million live in slavery. 400 thousand people are mu---red each year. Before this round of layoff notices many of you slept like babies in the face of all this. At least those of you remaining can still occasionally get the $200 burger lunch with the gold leaf to assuage your frailty.

“Not enough respect?” More like “too much entitlement.” Six digits a year plus benefits straight out of college is rare in the big scheme of things and most people have it far worse.

They won't fix the morale because they just have no clue how to do that. Look at Fran's ridiculous grin on every Check-in. Look at that preposterous happy-go-lucky face of JD. Listen to the ELT's cringeworthy jokes while LRs are happening. Does this strike you as a team that has a clue?

The worst are the stealth layoffs. You'll have a meeting with another team, and no one shows up to the meeting. Look into it further and the department was quietly eliminated.

No layoff announcement, no announcement to the org. Stealth layoffs are like something out of North Korea.

Publicly announced layoffs are typically just replacing full-time employees without relationships with contract workers... or sending some jobs over to India

Laying off workers few days before Christmas was just brutal. How can we the ones left sleep at night and enjoy the holidays shutdown knowing many of our laid off colleagues have families to feed, and loved ones who are in need or medical benefits.

This was the first major LR that I witnessed up close and personal. I was talking to a colleague today and they said the entire department’s morale has been down since 12/12.

For the OGs who have been around a while, is this just like every other LR? Or is something different about this one.

At least Chambers used to hand out ice cream from that caddy in the olden days.
