Beaumont

Potential move to Beaumont has been mentioned to me? What’s the vibe like?

The worst thing is the combined heat and humidity, for about 9 months of the year. You’ll be expected to work hard, but that’s OK - you’re on the front line and should expect that. Beaumont is a bit depressing to drive through, but no one “sent” there lives writhing 15 miles of the site. Your money will go a lot further and you’ll be in one of the few states that respects personal freedom rather than trying to exert control over every single part of your life. Be warned though, plant politics can be just as much of a b!tch as office politics.

I’m going to give an unpopular opinion vs the ‘room’: I have massive respect for the folks at Beaumont. Maybe because they are a perceived 3rd place, they have way more appetite to succeed than Baytown or Baton Rouge. I see creativity and commercial appetite from that site that is unique.

I cannot speak to people getting ‘stuck’ there. I know it is hard to attract employees to Beaumont, so it makes sense that assignments might be a little longer. Check the age of managers….because they might also get promoted faster.

Anyway, my respect for some of the great folks at Beaumont is lasting, and I will think just as highly of them if we meet again in HQ or elsewhere.

Beaumont is fine and not so far away from Houston. It is quite a grind there and always seems to feel in 3rd place after BT and BR.

The real hard thing is getting out. It is cliche on how many people were promised their assignment would be ~2 yrs (3 yrs max) and then they would rotate out to another assignment. 6-7 years later they are still trying to get out. Hotel California

It took me 8.5 years to finally make it to another site.
