Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Would you feel different if they were honest?

Out of curiosity, if management were to be extremely direct about their strategy do you think the response / moral would be better?

I’m upset about the messaging because I know it’s not honest, rather than the overall situation we’re in… I can come to logical understanding of some financial actions but always baffled in why the execs avoid directly speaking about the problem or their decisions.

That being said, if they were being honest they’d have to admit it’s their decisions that keep us in this repetitive cycle.

You can’t blame the business team when orders are strong. You can’t blame the plant when they’re forced to reduce shifts and understaff. You can’t blame the market when our customers are still booming.

Former tape guy,

It appears that 3M bosses have down voted your post. Which is why this web site is such a blessing. People can say what's on their minds and not rely on YET ANOTHER BS employee survey that goes into the cyber trash can once the bosses read the comments.

Congrats on surviving 35 years. You experience sometimes when 3M was actually a legend. Sorry about the bad boss. Probably another GE or Starbucks hire.

It is sad. I told my manager who works at home....that the culture was destroyed when they believed workers actually got more done at home...while watching their kids...etc....etc. Being a former technician my manager never gave my thoughts or ideas the time of day. He has only been with 3m five years....so was/is clueless in many ways. Im not religious
...so i thank my luck stars...im retired and own zero 3m stock. I worked at 3m over 35 years. I feel sorry for those on the sinking ship. Those on top need to wake the f... Up.

Just a hint but take a look at what the soon to be layer off Amazon employees are doing.

Too long has the top sat on thier throne running the company and its ppl into the ground.

Save yourselves and leave a little somthing for Mike and his GE cronies.

🤷🏼‍♂️Hard NO for me.
GE pays way better than 3M.

Just keep the paycheck coming.

Its simple. As an employee are we held accountable? Yes. 3M leadership is never accountable… the board is to blame. You can’t blame a college kid for being drafted #1 overall and then he can’t perform. It is the guys who drafted him that should own it.

It is possible that if management were to be more transparent and direct about their strategy, it could improve employee morale and trust in the company. However, it is important to note that there may be valid reasons for management to not fully disclose certain information, such as protecting proprietary information or avoiding negative impact on stock prices. Ultimately, clear and open communication can be beneficial for all parties involved, but it is important to consider the potential consequences before implementing such a change.

Nepotism has definitely taken 3M for a loop. But I also think the insane focus on beating earnings estimates every quarter (a relic from GE McNerney days 20 years ago that continues to this day) led to a short-term focus that never looks more than 90 days into the future vs 20th century 3M that cared about 30 percent of sales from new products introduced in the last 5 years. Now THAT strategy worked for years. You can either focus on cost cutting or growth, but never both. Sadly, the cost cutting approach turns you into a GE, a mere shell of itself from 40 years ago when neutron Jack took over.

The secrecy is ridiculous. Look at big tech and the fact that they actual hold themselves accountable for their missteps. 3M upper management is a joke and can't hold themselves to any standard. Nepotism has ki---d 3M...
