Yup. Once you're retired, you can't get at the website that has the W2's. You have to wait until it arrives in the mail. :(
Same here for me and still on the job. Online W2 still wasn't available when I checked a couple days ago. I'm sure they'll drag it out to the last minute that they're allowed to.
