Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon needs layoffs

We have so many unnecessary management layers that need to be removed. It would save money while no productivity would be lost. How many managers there are with just a few direct reports who do nothing but go from one useless meeting to another to repeat the same useless garbage among themselves? That's the real fat at Verizon.

@gsj+1kPQFOvq directors in consumer get laid off. It's just the HR announcement says they retired. I've seen plenty of early 50s directors "retire", just to later take another job.

Laying off Director level and above is nearly impossible. Very few Directors have been impacted over the years. Even like a giant reorg in 2015, Directors just finds new openings or opportunities. A few years back, they got rid of the ED role and now they are coming back. Director role and above have the most job security in this company.

Quasi-government, bureaucracy, those good old days are over, after the landmark telco de-regulations? And the break-up of Ma Bell as to the regional baby bells. This is a ruthless and competitive market saturated landscape.

What products are there which can be created??

Granted, if good service defines customer service, then yes, improve the customer service! However, customer service can only say no to customers because there is no "margin" to lower the price or give incentives.

Remember Verizon is a quasi-government bureaucracy that acts as a jobs program for mostly unemployable middle managers and HR staff. They could fire 90% of current employees and like Twitter nobody would ever notice.
