The last poster is correct as far as the ANNUAL bonus program (not be confused with a SIGNING bonus, which is what the OP asked about). If it is earlier in the year, there is no need to negotiate a year-end guarantee as you would be eligible for a full year plug. However after June you would want to make sure you have a guaranteed bonus in your offer letter, or at least get an email from the hiring manager with a target amount.
Depending on your level this may not be appropriate. I'd say VP and above should be requesting a guarantee year end bonus if you are starting after June. Also, it depends on the business unit.....not all business units do guarantees, and if you try to negotiate too hard, you could rub the hiring manager the wrong way and make yourself look like a problem child before you get in the door. Talk to your recruiter and they will let you know what is customary for the group you are interviewing with.
New hires negotiate an end of year bonus ahead of time
