Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Giving 100% of the pain to 10% of the people or give 100% of the people 10% of the pain?

Why are there so many tech layoffs, and why should we be worried? Stanford scholar explains

@1ffs+1kRXGoEo (ased) Thank you CP. Us all at Cisco UK know what a basketball fan you are! Thank you for an archetypal arrogant, condescending response. Shows exactly how busy the Directors are - scanning the posts here and responding too! Tut! Tut! Tut! Getting yourself down to the level of the beasts, are ya?

"cisco is the big league, the show, if you cant ball every night and manage your visiblity in the the NBA ,then get out"

The NBA is a performance based league. Cisco is a relationship based corporation, we do not have performance reviews or any transparency. If you are a VP and want to hire your nephew without any skills... it's rather easy. Then you can also provide your incompetent nephew 3 promotions at Cisco. This happens all the time.

"Layoffs are merely a way for the sociopaths and narcissists at the top of the food chain to get their rocks off. "

Exactly. I'm old. I've been on both sides of layoffs. They are almost always about psychopathy.

One CEO, in particular, chilled me to the bone. He would literally giggle while planning layoffs. He got a sick thrill from it.

scholar, ivory tower. This guy needs a serious discussion with our leadership team!

On a more serious note, I wish they would not invite all these woke speakers but him to our monthly Check-Ins :-/

Cisco was great for a good decade or so.

2000 to 2010 or so.

Great money. Challenging work. Great teams.

Glad to be out of it now.

Say goodbye to the big payout too.

Looking for big bucks and early in career? Go elsewhere. This whole technology worker space is overhyped, stressful to navigate long term, and simply no longer worth the personal time investment.

I tapped out less than halfway through the article. The problem is this talking head completely misses the point the same way that most brainwashed people in the corporate environment completely miss the point.

Corporate America is Social Darwinism. It is The Matrix. It is Mean Girls.

I roll my eyes when people try to force logic onto these layoffs. Like clockwork the virtue signalers come out and whine about "hard workers like me!" getting shafted while loafers (like yours truly) always manage to skirt by. The assumption being that layoffs are meant to be a tool to weed out unproductive workers and strengthen the company.

Layoffs are merely a way for the sociopaths and narcissists at the top of the food chain to get their rocks off. To purge the social outcasts and undesirables. Like high school all over again except this time the stakes are much higher (better find a way to cough up the dough for the mortgage payment on your overpriced home out in the sticks buddy LOL!).

It's a jungle out there, and you better believe your overlords can sniff out weakness a mile away.

Excellent article!

He makes some good points:

"Layoffs often do not cut costs, as there are many instances of laid-off employees being hired back as contractors, with companies paying the contracting firm. Layoffs often do not increase stock prices, in part because layoffs can signal that a company is having difficulty. Layoffs do not increase productivity. Layoffs do not solve what is often the underlying problem, which is often an ineffective strategy, a loss of market share, or too little revenue. Layoffs are basically a bad decision."

Someone needs to send a copy of his book, "Dying for a Paycheck. How Modern Management Harms Employee Health and Company Performance and What We Can Do About It", to Fran.
