Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Double promotion?

I know double promotions rare. Quite a few people got them in 2018. And those going for placed rolls get them. Any tips? Who has landed one recently. I need one for better career progresion.

I got a double promotion, but it didn’t materialize until after I retired in 2016. Thus promotion came in the form of a double annuity. Lucky me, I’ve been getting paid exactly double my annuity amount due each month for just over six years now. My family lawyer advised me to withdraw the overpayment in cash every month and deposit it in a savings account at another bank. I was also told that until Chevron realizes the mistake and demands reimbursement, Texas law only will allow them to clawback 12 months worth of overpayments.

@2whm: "...how are the chosen ones chosen?"
Pretty simple formula:

  1. Are you related to anyone in management?
  2. Did you go to the same university as current management? (They all came from about 6 schools.)
  3. Are you a diversity and inclusion candidate?

According to ChatGPT,

Getting a double promotion is an uncommon achievement, but it is possible with hard work and dedication. Here are some steps that may help you achieve this goal:

Exceed expectations: Set high standards for yourself and consistently exceed expectations in your current role. This shows your boss and colleagues that you are capable of taking on additional responsibilities.

Seek out new opportunities: Look for opportunities to take on additional projects or responsibilities outside of your current role. This demonstrates your willingness to go above and beyond and your commitment to the organization.

Develop new skills: Stay up-to-date with industry developments and continuously develop new skills that can add value to the organization. This makes you more valuable to the company and increases your chances of getting promoted.

Network and build relationships: Network with people in your organization and build strong relationships with your colleagues, superiors, and clients. This will help you establish a strong network of support and increase your visibility within the company.

Communicate your goals: Clearly communicate your career goals and aspirations to your superiors and make sure they understand your dedication and commitment to the company.

Remember, getting a double promotion is a significant accomplishment and may take time. Be patient, focus on your work and be open to opportunities that may come your way.

I agree. Always post out as soon as possible after a promotion. After all, you aren’t getting another one from the same BU for a long time. Bail out. Rinse and repeat.

The proactive way to get a double promotion is to apply for a placed job opening with a higher PSG that would provide a promotion opportunity -- shortly after receiving a promotion. Hi-Pots have an advantage in getting placed jobs, so if you're not a Hi-Pot then your chance of getting a double promotion is limited.

New to the company. How are the "chosen ones" chosen? What qualities do they show?

Check your sphere of influence.....without cross bu support your psg25 ambitions are screwed.

Try for placed jobs in horrible locations that won’t get many applicants, like Midland, Bako, or Venezuela.

From my experience outside of any broad sweeping HR initiative which I’m assuming the 2018 petro tech thing was (really not familiar with that), it is very hard to get a double psg promotion unless you have a supervisor with enough pull and enough what I’ll call “F you” money to challenge your HR any other leaders that would be reviewing the promo recommendation (and assuming performance warrants it). I’ve seen it happen (it happened to me). The default will always be to time in grade even if that’s not an official requirement in order to be promoted psg. I had to laugh, new manager and we were discussing promotion timing in future and I was told I needed at least another year because back to backs aren’t “allowed”, I laughed and told them to look at my psg change history

What factors are taken into consideration when being double promoted for a placed job? If I am PSG 23 and apply for a PSG25 and I meet all the requirements exceptionally well, what else do they look at??

@1iha+1kVKtpo2,
Thats not entirely accurate. There were many people who earned promos in 2018 that did not get a double bump. It resulted in a lot of very irritated people. The petrotech realignment stands alone as the d-mbest HR move in Chevron history. Thats impressive considering how useless Chevron HR is.

The 2018 promo replaced the petrotech bonus in US. Those who happened to be getting a promo also ended up with a double promo.

So no, don’t see that happening again because we don5 have a petrotech bonus and we do promos in November now.

With supervisors taking salary action in January, if we were gonna get it this year, it would’ve already leaked here

@sii+1kVKtpo2 - when you say “for all” you actually mean only US payroll. Rest of the world got left behind and continue to be left behind. Will always be a US company first and forget the rest.

I was thinking since we got so far behind completion on inflation we might see another promo for all like in 2018.

Unless your one of the chosen ones, which your obviously not from your question, no double bump for you within the company....maybe you need to search the open positions at other companies
