Micromanagement is awful

I've been working here for a long time and I've never been micromanaged as much as I am now. I guess I'm not the only one.

What is the point of creating so much pressure on employees? Is their goal to get many of us to leave or what?

The thing is that if you even came close to the minimum requirements for your role you may not be micromanaged. When you think you're hot stuff and can just do whatever you want including leaving halfway through the day then yes, you will be watched and "micromanaged". Do the job you were hired for.

It’s called creating a paranoid culture . It’s not just our business it’s rampant in most companies right now - micro management and scare tactics . The wolf is always at the door . Our supervisors are just micro managing to show they are productive because they are in the same paranoid culture we are . Sh-t runs down hill while those at the very top are buying their next house .

When I have a boss who wants to control everything and I do not particularly like them, I just turned around and become overly communicative and basically unable to complete a single task without notifying them of all details and getting feedback. That then makes them eventually send me the message indicating they do not need that level of communication. I then explain that observed behavior says otherwise and I am just ensuring they were in the loop from that point on to avoid them having to come to me and interupt my work. They then shut up and quit bothering me. Rather than making the need to control about you, make it about them so it becomes "nacho" problem...
You could also be an adult, particularly if you want to stay on their good side... Ask for a meeting, explain in the meeting the agenda is to discuss the recent feedback you have been observing and it's impact on your productivity. A boss never wants to be the source of a productivy issue. Ask to gather their thoughts on why they are doing the behavior and list out suggestions on how you can work towards limiting it . Perhaps they have pressures from their own management they are receiving and unable to express it in a healthy way. Of course that is the mature way of behaving in a professional work environment...My way is much more juvenile and doesn't create an open communication.

You are micro managed because there are too many layers of management.

Yes, when I was first hired, I noticed a little with quotas and things like that, but it has increased since then. It's so unbearable now that my coworkers and I are at our wit's end and looking for other jobs. I have wondered if they do this to get people to leave instead of laying off. This behavior is not making anyone want to stay. Look at the company reviews on any job board; micromanagement is a common theme.
