Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Your time will come.

Post after post of frustration, anxiety and angst. The key points resonate with the same themes.

  1. ) Yes, Citi will assuredly layoff under the guise of streamlining, consolidation, etc…phrase it however you want, you are still placing people into the unemployment line.
  1. ) Yes, work from home will come to an end.
  1. ) Yes, it’s true Citi at best offers the same and not better than other companies in regards to pay and benefits.
  1. ) Yes, its true Citi bonuses can be laughable if you are in the wrong group.
  1. ) Yes, it’s true that the stock valuation vs other banks is not that great upon comparing.
  1. ) Yes, it’s true, Citi is in a cycle of paying fine after fine.

All these things are true, however, your time will come. If you can hang in there and weather the storm, good times are ahead. The recession will hit and then subside. When this happens, there will be a huge hiring spree in other companies. Why try to move to another bank, branch out to other sectors. Your skills are strong so don’t sell yourself short. Almost every job search engine has numerous filters including those for work from home and salary ranges. Save your money now, wait, steadily search and when the time is right apply for jobs and be patient. You’ll land where you want.
It maybe better, it may be worse. One thing is for sure the status quo for Citi won’t change anytime soon. You though are empowered to move on and can use the points listed above as motivation to further your career elsewhere.

What timing I have a private group email thread outside of Citi discussing this very thing. Moving on elsewhere. Preparing for the layoffs AND also moving on as if not laid off, then you’ll be working under extra extra stress and long hours to make up for the laid off employees. Basically, just moving on man.

That’s funny or sad depending on how you look at it. My friends and I at lunch did the same thing last week. We are all hoping that the recession frees up other opportunities elsewhere away from Citi.

A group of work mates met at Barnes and Nobles here to review each other’s résumé’s, update references and so forth. Many Citi employees are prepping for the layoff rounds that are coming. For me personally, I’d love to take the layoff package.

About half my colleagues are looking for another job right now.

Well that’s awesome for those people. I’m glad things worked out for them in that instance. This totally negates the other points made.

There have been people who have worked remote for years before covid, many who have never been job displaced. Fun fact, citi also hired people during covid who will also be remote forever because they do not live anywhere near a citi Corp location. Remote is not going away for those people.

True….Citi makes sure you know that you are expendable. They re-enforce that quite often.

As one person put it you are a commodity, a resource a tool to be traded, used and discarded at the whim of the company. It’s not personal, nothing any more or less personal than looking at a stapler. Its about the bottom line. You may or may not be deemed “worthy” based on any given metric they see fit. A two week notice when you quit, why? You don’t get one when they let you go. So why give them one when you leave.

You heard the speech that if you can wait through the storm, you’ll find a better job elsewhere? You heard this from your previous employer?

I heard this speech before landing here when I was laid off from another bank.
