Frankly, there's no good way to handle layoffs of this magnitude. Verizon's Board charged their newly designated CEO with the massive task of turning around a terribly underperforming company that's in crisis. Decisions had to made quickly to implement against government required employee notification periods so Verizon would be able to begin realizing cost savings as early in the new year as possible.

Yes, Dan did mention there would be layoffs, but news had more info than we did. And to refer us to read online? Shameful
