Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Morbid curiosity

How's the environment been post layoff? I'm one of the impacted ones, first time ever hit with one. Mostly nosy and just curious. Seems like people are beating around the general question so I felt I should ask.

@bz my GN&T ADs have been very open about who all is gone, not sure why your's aren't. Even the vendors know at this point. Nobody gone has set an OOO, I don't think you know what you're talking about and are just lying. What RIFd person would bother even setting OOO lol. I completely disagree with you saying this layoff has been poorly managed. My AD has done a great job treating the departed with respect, and managing priorities and workload for those who have left. This su-ks for everyone but your lies don't make it feel any better for anyone except yourself. Just move on.

Uncertain on who was impacted. We have a new leader and don't really have a clear message on what priorities will be

In GN&T it’s pretty bad. We still don’t know who all is gone - the ADs won’t tell us. So we’re trying to piece it together from vague OOO responses. On my team, work has yet to be reassigned. Almost every day I get a call or an email asking who is doing that work and I don’t have an answer. We’re worn out from the lead up to layoffs. We’re frustrated with the lies we were told ahead of layoffs. We’re tense and wondering when the next round is coming. No one is happy, or even ok. Everyone seems to have one foot out the door.

I’ve been in telecom for decades. I’ve been through round after round after round of layoffs. This was my first at Verizon and the most poorly managed layoff I’ve ever seen. The fallout has been much worse than I’ve seen before and it’s going to take an awful long time for morale to recover, if it ever does recover. It has only been a few weeks, but the culture shift feels permanent.

For us it is mostly crazy and very stressful in GN&T. ADs are reassigning work as best they can, and most ICs are open to help thankfully. There are a couple who are being more defiant in taking stuff outside their comfort space. Not sure why we kept these people...hopefully they will be the first to go if another one happens.

People in my team and org are unsettled not so much for fear of further cuts but for the impatience of a clear strategy for our area. Our systems have been ignored with so many leadership changes. Many are hopeful with Snanks gone, we’ll get a person who’ll provide some needed direction. But we’re probably 6 months out.

Quiet! Lot of projects being cancelled cause of cap expenses. Know reorg is coming. Just waiting for details on what we’ll be doing going forward. People just generally unsettled right now.

constant state of who is going to do that now? And after laying off people that would usually take on all tasks, its getting thin

Lousy but life is moving on. The whole build up did a number on everyone
