Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Laid off in 2011

After training my Chinese replacements and collecting severance, Found better high paying opportunity in 3 weeks at another company.
Worked for 8 years and was laid off during Covid. This last layoff seemed like definite age discrimination and left me bitter. Collected severance and found almost similar job at about same salary in FinTech. So I have increased my skills and I guess it has worked out ok. Cisco lost some real talent when our group was cut in 2011. Wish there was a better way to reallocate the talent rather than let great people go. Back in those years Chambers referred to us as Cisco family. What a way to treat family!

Sc--w Chambers and sc--w Chuck. They suck!

I also remember I attended the first company meeting after joining Cisco. When I heard JC shouted " we are a family", I started to know what is LMAO. This guy is a clown, not trustful.

As to not looking back, I think it is important to look back and learn from experiences.
Always good to see who is being laid off, maybe I can hire someone with real talent that was impacted.

And you did not seem to have recovered from that since you all keep looking back. I could not care less and I never looked back to see what happened with my employers and if they are still in business or whatever they do. If I accidentally hear about then so be it but I do not think it is worth spending the time to go back and to read what others are going through

If anything, you should have learnt by now, that no-employer is a family.
It is all a business.
Both benefit from it. Once you think, the employer is not helping YOU grow in your career.. leave to a place that does help you grow.
