Nov 30 retiree… final pay does not reflect purchased vacation

Question for those retired nov 30… did they reduce your payout of vacation earned by the amount of purchased vacation? I’m trying to make sense if this is fair. I gave up money during each paycheck… and did not fully use those purchased days… now they are not paying it out.
Anyone else wrestling with this in their mind?
Thanks

When you purchase vacation, it clearly states that purchased vacation is the last used and is not reimbursed. That is the deal you signed up for.

I retired on 11/30 after 27 years. I never purchased vacation time, but I earned 5 weeks of vacation a year (NOTE: 100% of your annual accrued vacation is earned by 10/30 per Life@Ford) . I emailed my supervisor a spreadsheet just prior to 11/30 letting him know how much vacation and family flex time I used in 2022. And I sent him the offboarding link to the site where the supervisor is supposed to input your vacation hours (not days) used in 2022. I received my pending vacation paycheck last week.

MOQ is correct. Purchases vacation is not paid out.

Purchased vacation is ridiculous. Was it even on the benefits this year?

Hey, OP, don't know if you are planning on working again or not, but if you are.....don't be an id--t again. In other words, don't count on your employer playing nice or fair.... they rarely do unless you have something on them, and they know it.

@Op. Nice guys finish last. I was burned with OT one time at this company: they never paid me the full amount (PM complaining of expenses, only signed half of the hours I worked on a Sunday, after they called me at my cell and asked to fix the issue). Since then, I am very very cautious with my dealings with Ford.

Now, legally you paid a little on every paycheck so you could have PAID vacation days. It is very similar to the layaway programs. Yes, you didn't finish paying it because you retired. Still, the money should be returned. Talk to your ex-LL6 about it. Make sure to go through your paychecks, do the math, and present your findings.

One more thing, vacation days are not considered wages in MI.

Sorry to hear you lost on the vacation pay... Hopefully you have not sent the unused vacation pay note to your former supervisor and hopefully your supervisor did not keep track of your vacation.

Substitute as much of you vacation time to Sick Days and Personal Business in the note..

Having Covid during your vacation should be sick days. Planning for retirement has to require some personal business days.

What does it hurt to try and get some of that back.

@esu+1kddjjNv This is vacation time. And the OP is especially concerned with purchased vacation above and beyond what they are entitled do per years of service.

This was the same thing that happened to SIRP'd employees too. It is absolutely wrong and any employee that purchased vacation time that they did use should be reimbursed for it. I don't even know how this is legal. And I don't understand how risk adverse company like Ford takes the chance of being sued over a few thousand dollars.

What is PTO payout? Salaried or union? We salaried GSR don’t get paid for unused sick/absence time.

Be grateful that payroll didn't claw back the PTO payout as what happened a few months ago. Several employees were separated and received the wrong PTO payout. Within a week, all had their PTO amount deducted from their direct deposit checking accounts. Some of the longtime employees had the equivalent of 2 months salary deducted from their accounts. Lots of calls were made, emails were sent, finally Ford issued the correct PTO payout when the ex-employees got their lawyers involved.

Thanks. OP here, I am trying to reason out “no payout for unused purchased vacation”. My paycheck was reduced accordingly January thru November. Wish I,d know ahead to separate and use purchased vacation first. I played the good employee and didn’t use any vacation October - November in order to help transition to the engineer left with my workload.
Things got so busy in November I worked over thanksgiving as our plant in Mexico needed answers from my analysis and they don’t take Thanksgiving.

Bought vacation rules state you use company vacation first and bought last. There is no payout on purchased vacation. Standard practice is you tell your current supervisor how many company vacation days you have left and they get paid out.

That being said you might want to substitute some vacation days with some sick and personal business days. If you are like most good employees you probably never used all of them.

I have a buddy that did not retire and he was complaining that he was going to give away a bunch of unused vacation because he was too busy, launch, nobody to cover his work...

I remember in the old days our supervisor would sit down and make sure everybody had a vacation plan as part of their PR. None of this skipping out after Thanksgiving and leaving the rest of the team hanging till Jan2.

Don't worry as somebody in the company probably took more than they had so the fuzzy math all works our for the House. Never for the player.

RIP Aug22 @ 9:30am
