Thread regarding Belk layoffs

What’s happening with Belk

In my opinion here is what is happening with Belk. I believe they have saw what is actually work for Macy’s and Belk is going to give it a shot. Macy’s is opening up smaller format stores that seem to be doing quite well for the brand, but at the same time they are closing their stores that are simply not profitable anymore and putting more focus into their “go-forward” stores. This strategy is all too similar to what Belk is doing. I do believe we will see several more store closures with Belk in the new year but honestly if this can help the company I believe it should be done. I mean it is working for Macy’s as they saw their first sales increase and positive outlook for the first time in several years.

@aj if Belk is a southern company , why do we have a store in Tulsa? I’ve never thought of that area as the being in the south.

No here's why belk has been failing. We took on all of Macy's dead weight rejects who pulled over more dead weight rejects and kept stacking the deck all the way to the top. Not one executive still here that i can think of from previous belk that had not had Macy's experience. Macy's was dying when these same people worked there now that we have them.. we are dying and Macy's is growing.. go figure. Don is a joke, all the execs above store managers are WFH jokes (store side and AP side). Folks go before they let you go.

What concerns me is that the Tulsa store is not in a “dead mall” or dead outdoor shopping center, it’s a very busy area, with lots of popular stores and restaurants surrounding it, so it’s not closing for lack of foot traffic in and around the shopping center, that’s for certain.

DO NOT COMPARE BELK TO MACYS

I worked at Macys until 2022. yes Macys has its problems too, but nothing at all like Belk. I think Belk’s problems are way more serious than the average rank and file employee realizes, we also have a CEO that is an enigma. The majority of Belk associates don’t even know the CEO’s name, that really says something.
