Some key questions:
- do I want to stay at USB? If so, in what role? Is there a different role internally that I’d be great at?
- what happens if I’m laid off? (There have been a few dismissals in the corporate office over the last couple of weeks. That will accelerate for all employee groups after Union customers are integrated.)
make that plan now: resume updated, LinkedIn profile also current, etc. Think about your budget and what you could cut. Always good to have it thought out in case it comes to pass.
- what’s the external hiring environment like? if you’re not already, look for a new role outside USB if for no other reason than to understand the landscape. Information is your friend here.
Preparation makes you feel better about stuff, even if bad things don’t come to pass.
