Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Health crisis

In my department, so many people are on medical leave or coming from/going on medical leave.

It blows my mind that Fidelity would rather pay stress leave claims than do anything about weak management (sorry “leaders”). Someone is responsible for the medical problems and it’s the stress and culture of the managers hired during the pandemic.

Not sure about the whole company, or just my department.

I know of one in my group as well and I am in the same boat. My job has unmanageable workloads every day and year. Nothing changes. We must finish it. You think with all the OT everyone is pulling that they would see a problem but they do not.

We have about 12 out in our group now. Strangely all are women.

@dz I fully agree.

More than the workload or coming to office during connect week, spending x hours in office, it's the frequent reorg email, random announcement from leaders followed by months of radio silence only to add more stress, uncertainty and anxiety causes mental health to deteriorate.

I am fine with the workload and even the extra work, that’s just the reality of today’s job market. What’s not okay is the constant stress of reorgs and the ongoing fear of losing my job. It’s taking a real toll on my health.

@OP Totally agree! I am in FI and leaves have increased a lot the past 3-5 years. If we start talking about how toxic the environment is, Directors shut it down immediately. The truth CANNOT be discussed during Connect Weeks because the fools in the glass offices might hear. Yet it’s the client facing reps who do the actual work totally suffering. It’s depressing. Multiple women cry almost every Connect Weeks. Upper management must love inflicting pain.

I cannot answer for all departments but there has definitely been an increase in what is expected from the employees which puts added pressure on their performance. They say stress is a ki-ler- it can manifest in all kinds of physical issues such as migraines, insomnia & chest pains to name a few. There are a few folks on my team that are out or have been out as well- whether it is physical health, mental health or maternity leave not sure which or all. It seems Fidelity is a strong company but they are treating the employees like the ship is going down and need more! more! more! There's an expression of whipping the horse too much- that is what Fidelity has become. No wonder people are experiencing health issues.
