I struggle just to get myself in the door every day. It's only about the paycheck now, and even that can be gone next round.

Let’s just be real! It’s not what you know or how well you perform. If you aren’t licking someone’s b*tt then you should be worried.
the low performers are usually not touched for whatever reason
then on this layoffs, the vp's don't have much to go on so these low performers can slip through a layoff
vs someone that is working hard but may just be in the wrong area would get laid off
obviously the system is not working, but that would be expected for not putting in the work to understand your staff
so the system, taught by example, basically trains people to not work that hard
Gracefully refuse to perform and bet if/when managers report it
