Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

I'm not picking up someone else's work

Somehow, survivors of layoffs are just expected to absorb everything, regardless of whether it fits their role or skills. Management makes zero effort to redistribute work sensibly. They just dump it on us. Not my problem that they cut based purely on cost and then wonder why teams have no expertise left.

@OP I am not going to sugarcoat it...I dont like the tone of your post. Please learn to be a team player and pick up the slack. Just remember you are fortunate to be inside the berm. Now go running to your boss and say these words...what else can I help with.

Re: unionizing - Do it. Things are not going to get better. Nike is in a death spiral and employee safety and morale is not a concern for them.

I was laid off from Nike several years ago and now work for a company with a union and it’s night and day. My manager can’t even contact me outside of work hours without breaching the labor contract. There are so many other benefits and protections that come with a strong union.

that is exactly what management wants, overload you, you underperform, another round of layoffs and youre gone, then send your work to some etw overseas or just shut down your entire product/service. they are doing this because they need a skeleton crew to keep the lights a long as possible before the figure out how to transition. this is a death spiral. 2-3 years from now when Nike is half dead, EH will be gone and collected his paycheck. just remember PK built this company on sending work to contractors while controlling its sales and design which it hasnt had a good handle for the last few years either.

@ad yes, that is what they expect now, and you don't get to retire from there either,. you'll be riffed long before that

so save now, invest.....exit plan at 50..... then the rest is gravy...... not easy but new reality

Since Nike no longer seems to be leading - and arguably can’t even follow effectively - it might be time for us to ask ourselves whether it’s time to consider unionizing. There have been ongoing layoffs, limited accountability from leadership, and an HR function that often feels more aligned with the company’s interests than with employees. On top of that, issues like pay inequity, inconsistent promotion processes, and a lack of transparency are hard to ignore.

It’s starting to resemble the kinds of conditions that have led workers at other large companies to organize.
