Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

There's no reason to work hard at WF

Your job security, raises, bonuses, and promotions will be based on demographic factors and nepotism (and now RTO) WAY before actual job performance.

To be fair though, it's not just WF. Most orgs are like this (banking or not).

Also, there often is a disconnect between how employees see themselves (in terms of value) and how management sees them. What's important to you isn't always important to mgmt. Sometimes an employee will think that working extra hours to crank out a spreadsheet will get them rewarded because they worked really hard on it.

But big picture, that spreadsheet wasn't as important to mgmt. Also, mgmt is results-oriented. They don't care if something you did was difficult or easy - as long as it got done, that's all that matters. There's no reward for hard work, only smart work.

Bottom line: no matter where you work, putting in constant extra effort will almost always result in your being disappointed. Remember that work is an ongoing contract - your time for their money. It's business, and only business. Focus on fulfilling just what you need to for your end of the contract.

Nicely put, @qxk+1kiZlpME.

Hate to break it to y’all but I am a minority and female. WF does not truly care about promoting or hiring diverse folks. It’s all talk. I have sat on “round tables”, worked my bu-t off, pestered to be allowed to get relevant certifications (and obtained them). It’s favoritism, not diversity that you should be complaining about.

Thanks OP. Sharing your bottom line with my best friend from work (is that still a WF thing? I think not.) who is disappointed and frustrated daily. Me too. Not caring is not an option for either of us to pass the mirror test, and not performing is not an option, so 2023 plan is to work towards acceptance of WF policy or lack thereof and keeping our eyes on the prize of severance or retirement, which is close, whichever comes first. Or resign after bonus.

Just identify as a minority. Problem solved.

We have 200+ items in our backlog but can't work on them because we don't have a SOW, so I sit idle, brush up my skills, and look for other jobs.

You forgot if you are racially/ethnically diverse you are set especially if you are also an external hire from BofA or JPMC - Yay DEI!

Great OP, no truer words have been written regarding the WF reality. No one cares about the extra effort.
