Asante has confirmed it has begun laying off staff, just as its CEO indicated earlier this month.
In a May 4 email to all Asante staff, CEO Tom Gessel said he anticipated laying off about 300 workers in the coming months. That’s about 5 to 6 percent of the health system’s workforce.
The Medford-based health system says it continues to face significant financial losses driven by a variety of factors, including a reported $12 million loss in March alone.
NBC5 News reached out to Asante for more details about the layoffs and was directed to a Frequently Asked Questions page on the organization’s website.
According to the page, Asante says the layoffs will focus “heavily on non-clinical roles.”
The health system also says it will provide severance and separation benefits, along with outplacement support for those who qualify.
