Has anyone been promoted in their current role without needing to switch jobs or apply for a higher title job posting

I was given a promotion last year, not as part of the role realignment. No decent pay rise, though my manager did try.
The promotion is serving me well as my job title looks better while I apply for jobs as I’ve been laid off and am in the last day is the thirtieth of June cohort.
@gk I have heard the same on my side.
I noticed one person in my team got a higher level in January. But comparison-wise, there were way more of them in July last year. We will see what Merit announcements will bring (as new titles become visible). My manager told me that promotions were not possible this year, but I’m not sure if that is true.
over the past 20 yrs our manager has been promoted but no one on the team
what promotions ? are you kissing the right a-s ?
Not in my business unit. I’ve been here 27 years and while my title changes every 4-5 years, I haven’t been legitimately promoted in about 15 years. Promotions just don’t happen.
In my area, most were considered alignment shifts to new role titles, not promotions. I was told not to congratulate my longstanding dev team members because of this. This also happened to me after they over-20x’d my responsibility. I’ve seen one promotion the entire time I’ve been here.
@OP Yes, me. Also members of my development team have a few levels to go up as they gain more experience.
@OP In my area it was rare that a promotion was made without having to ask for or demand one. And then the person was lucky to get a corresponding pay rise.
