Era of remote work is done

Remember in the first year of the pandemic, when the news was filled with articles about working from home, how that was the future even once the pandemic is gone, how all the companies are looking into reducing their office space, etc? That was considered to be the future, nobody doubted that for a second. Then a few years passed, the big honchos all around realized they had way too much space sitting around, city centers were empty, and the sentiment changed. Now everybody is pushing for a hybrid model at best and full RTO at worst. Fiserv is on its way to the worst option, and there's nothing that can be done to change that. As much as all of us hate being back in the office, those on top are happy with their decision and that's all that matters. If WFH couldn't survive after this perfect setup, it never will. The remote era is over and we all need to face it rather than fight it and remain miserable. At least we enjoyed it while it lasted.

I worked from home before COVID and couldn't believe they would make a change and make everyone come in . WFH isn't over! Its just over at Fiserv. I've moved on to a better paying position with an international company where WFH is common. Don't let them fool you into thinking that you have to stay in your sad situation. Move on One Fiserv!

The issue lies on the fact that a good portion of the company worked from home longer before covid. It's a foul play to take all those workers and pull the rug from under them. It exposes an issue that lies on a much deeper level.

Makes NO sense, the remote is now the future not the past, why even say that? Fiserv has closed offices only to Build pretty, expensive, and illogically located ones and now want to force people to them cuz LOOK we spent money making it pretty. Facts: its quieter at home, in the office i have low walls so i am constantly looking at and HEARING all my neighbors and their calls. Get constantly interrupted as folks ignore the fact you are on a call or busy. I may sit next to a team mate but EVERYTHING is through teams app chat for documentation or emails and other teammates are in other states so still a teams meeting using the app. stupidity of MUST be on camera for all meetings yet im looking at you in the office. it is nothing but a micro managing move and fear tactics of if you dont fulfill the office time we will lay you off.

The "collaboration" tagline falls apart the second you see how many former remote employees are being forced into offices where they have ZERO team members they actually work with. It's easy to see this is strictly about monitoring people by an archaic group of leaders.

Also, hiring new team members in New Jersey when their core groups are located in "non-hub" locations makes the "collaboration" ring completely hollow. So many people have to commute in now just to work on Teams all day, just like they would from home, makes these flimsy arguments they trot out continually downright laughable.

First Data execs were anti work from home the day that they came in the door. Old Fiserv was an accepted WFH company. I am in the Engineering side and the weak excuses we hear is that one needs to be in the office to collaborate with co-workers. Sure, like building a server, loading software, creating backups etc., is a group hug exercise.
They are now running reports to see who badges in a minimum three times a week. Any short comings may be used as justification for laying one off.
And the 40 million dollar a year man at the top keeps rolling along.

OP is completely wrong... the golden age of that era has just begun. All these dinosaur companies will over time go extinct to smaller nimble & lower cost companies that have embraced remote work and out-compete on cost. WFH employee productivity & engagement are much higher as well. Top talent will gravitate towards these smaller companies as they flee top-down autocrats who care more about "butts in seats" than actual output.

Clarification: Remote work at Fiserv will soon be dead. Frank along with the Elons of the world are short-sighted and don't adapt well. Remember what Darwin said about creatures that don't adapt? However these "leaders" will take down the companies with them before they ever admit to being wrong.

Real estate sunk costs and tax breaks from states like NJ and Wisconsin will keep Fiserv in the office for a very long time. That doesn’t mean remote work is dead, though. Stop equating Fiserv to the world. New companies embrace the concept because they’re not real estate dependent. They’ve figured that out.

I worked there for almost 10 years, so 8 years prior to the pandemic and was fully remote. Even without the pandemic frank would be forcing everyone to an office
