Don’t normally attend these monthly calls but decided to tune in today. Well that was an hour wasted. Mainly insufferable people droning on in corporate speak about absolute BS. Main takeaway was hearing that 400 UK staff are on a PIP? Is this bell curve requirements, something for middle managers to do, a tick box exercise or all 3? Oh and not a word about pay review.

@dv Is it cheaper to let people go quietly with a VR. Or to make a meal of engineering people out the door. Most of us left want out, but would like a pay off. Even if that's achieved by doing nothing and eventually being dismissed.
The id--ts Just trying to recruit 500 people in London and at the same time getting rid of 400.
They couldn't organise a p-e up in brewery.
Why would you spend so much recruiting so many on the off chance your going to win some contracts. Your track record demonstrates you lose customers and don't win contracts. You need to resource up accordingly.
@dv How long? I've got no work to do. No amount of training is good enough because clients want experts who are practiced in what they do. Not someone who's not touched a real system in 6 months, and just completed a 2 day self paced education. DXC thinks that makes me an expert. The clients know otherwise. Yet they refuse VR. Seems like a game to me, but I get the same money out of it for the same amount of effort.
@b7 Performance Improvement Plan - basically if you're deemed to be not performing as well as you should be (typically via the formal performance review process) you are placed on a PIP.
In theory this is to give targeted help to improve people's performance, in practice it's also used as a first step in managing people out of the business.
The UK, unlike many US states, is not an 'at will' country regarding employment, so to sack someone you generally have to follow a long and time-consuming process.
What is PIPS ?
Only people who need to be on a PIP is Rawwwuuullll and Drumgooolleee and the rest of their buddies
The direction seems to be to put everyone on a PIP and work them out the door. What I'd like to know is how long does that process take? How long can I do pretty much nothing and continue to take a wage. They refuse VR, but have no work, then complain I'm not being utilised. They suggest I do training but can't say what skillset they need. They are the management, if they don't know - how am I expected to.
And full exposure - I don't need this or another job, so it doesn't matter what happens to my CV.
No way they said 400 people are on PIPS? Really?
Can anyone confirm?
We are all fed up in Erskine with the bs useless B churns out. We ignore him and enjoy the pool matches instead, he can pip as much as he wants.
