Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Mental health

My mental heath is struggling. It was struggling before the VSP because we just couldn’t met production as the numbers weren’t there. We have just been hearing for months do more!
Now we hear it really doesn’t matter what you do, it may not be enough.
How do we even function at this point when our lives are in limbo. My future, my goals, my life is up in the air. People don’t get it. Your a nurse you will get a job.. will I really.. so many people looking for jobs. Who is going to hire a nurse who has been away from the beside for 15 years, who is going to hire a nurse closer to retirement than not. How does a person who is planning for retirement deal with starting over.
Dont tell me it will be ok.. it wont be. I am more lucky than some, I wont be homeless my husband can keep a roof over our heads, I wont go hungry, we can afford food. But I cant contribute to my family, I cant live the life I have planned. My goals and dreams. All because working my a-s off for years to a company that just doesn’t give a sh-t about us has got me in a tailspin.
Sorry just had to vent to people who will get.. people who are going through the same thing as me.

You are arguing with people that think the Earth is only a few thousand years old. Save your own mental health and realize that an uncomfortable percentage of people in this country is beyond help. They prefer fables and fairytales because it offers simple answers and helps them sleep easier at night.

If you're believing in an emotional support Jesus or a god, then you are part of the problem. “Trust God” seems like a pretty simple answer to a very complex universe. I would suggest you grow up and face the reality before you.

@bj I am not the person your message was directed at but just wanted to say that I doubt with you that it would make any difference whether they spoke in a passive aggressive, passive, aggressive, or assertive.

You simply do not want to jave God in any of your thoughts.

To some that seems like insanity. But it is not a head issue but rather a heart issue.

I hope my message here does not come across as “passive aggressive.” Because this is me being as direct and forthright with you the best way I know how.

I can relate as I too am close to retirement but financially can’t retire for at least 5 yrs. And even then will need to work part time. I’m alone with no other income to help pay bills. I’m done with the anger and depression. Now I’m in the acceptance stage and will need to deal with whatever happens. Good luck to everyone.

@bd It's great that you believe in God. What I find gross though is people, such as yourself, that push their religion on others with passive aggressive posts like this under the guise of being supportive will simultaneously insulting them.

A lot of people on this board don’t trust God, and it shows. Don’t sit up worrying on here knowing no one has any answers or real intel because you are bored. Wait it out, and go forward either way. People get laid off all the time, we all will be okay.

This is a harsh reality that we are all facing and none of us deserve to be going through what we are experiencing right now. I'm wishing you all peace and comfort...we will all somehow get through this together <3

@OP I am sorry! This is so hard and I know we all feel this to our soul! I am closer to retirement than not and what do I do now? I really thought I could last with this company another 5 years and retire, now no. But now what? In the meantime till we know when the final ax falls, what is going to happen? The anxiety and stress is so real and the company wants and expects us all to perform at 1000% but inside we are hurting and tired.

I feel you. We can probably figure out our finances as well without going homeless, but I am deeply bothered for many more in positions not as privileged. I cant imagine for those who are older, not close enough to retirement but going to face discrimination still.

But Sarah gets to have the "hard conversations" for us from behind a wall of money.

I’m not close to retirement age, but I feel like my family planning plans just got blown up. I’ve been in tears over the last week as my fertility clock is ticking.

there is no guarantee if I survive this wave, I won’t be impacted later. and if I’m pregnant, then what?? who’s going to hire a pregnant woman? if I get a job, how do I keep my job since I won’t qualify for FMLA? probably won’t get paid maternity leave either. what about the cost of childcare if I’m not able to find a remote position?? it’s like $2,500 a month! a lot of what if… so I get the unfairness and irritation of it all.

if you haven’t already, tweak your resume and LinkedIn so it’s not easy to tell your age. AI is all in application systems now and may auto reject based on age. to be honest, I feel like the year you graduated with a degree is irrelevant and that’s how they get you. I got the degree. the end.

I wish you peace of mind whatever happens.
