Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Change job internally - more at risk?

I have been within current VP org for the last 5 years. I see a good opportunity moving in another group. Did a few interviews and manager said I’m the perfect fit.

My question is, am I more at risk of WFR shifting roles internally? As in, would be the first one to go (if the manager was asked to make headcount reductions).

Thoughts?

I struggle to understand who on earth downvoted my "Tenure is absolutely considered. The longer you've been with the company, the more likely you are to get laid off!" post. Are MD or JC on this forum?

It's been an absolute sla-ghterhouse of people that been with the company for 10+ years for the sole reason that they've gotten promoted and have a higher salary, but somehow I am to believe that some dude is actually downvoting it because they think that all of the people the actually knew the business that got laid off somehow were all bad? My organization is in absolute shambles and the only thing people working on are covering their own as--s, but sure, yeah, it's not about that. I'm sure all the people with long tenures were simply just bad. Yeah, that's it.

You're not more at risk after an internal move, unless you failed to deliver in that role. If anything, the fact there are positions open in that team indicate it has a stronger future than others.

@fa There's your problem with Dell right there folks. Dell doesn't give two shiits about how valuable you are to the company, or how much money you make for them, they only care about how much they can save by getting rid if you. That is the culture at Dell and it will destroy this company.

It comes down to how expensive you are deemed in the grand scheme of things.

@ec Tenure is absolutely considered. The longer you've been with the company, the more likely you are to get laid off!

@d2 not so worried regarding current manager. We have always had very progressive conversations regarding career et cetera.

Question is more focused regarding the new team. When HR comes asking to reduce heads, is tenure in job a variable that is considered?
Or does it work the other way, such that, being new into the job means they see you as part of their long term growth plan.

HR here. Hiring manager will have a tough time trying to lay you off after hiring you. It's quite difficult. But if you don't get through, your current manager might deem you flight risk. Careful there.

@OP Don't trust any manager or so-called "leader" at Dell as far as you can throw them. They conspire and collude together to target anyone who they feel betrays them. You will be first on the list. Count on it.
