Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Caste bias in tech layoffs and re-orgs?

Has any data-driven analysis been done on caste bias in tech layoffs and re-orgs?

I am an outsider to the Indian community, but I frequently see discussions regarding caste or community bias playing a role in tech hiring, promotions, and re-orgs. Specifically, there are claims that managers can sometimes infer a person's community or caste background based on their last name or geographic origin, and that this influences who is prioritized during layoffs or restructuring.

Is there any objective truth or documented data behind these claims?

Specifically, I am wondering if anyone has conducted a linguistic or demographic analysis mapping tech workforce data (like last names/origins) against layoff or promotion rates to see if a statistically significant pattern exists.

@cw You are right, the oligarchs and republicans need to be stopped now. The corruption and destruction of jobs of hard working Americans demands it. Funny how that orange tu-d had made over at LEAST a billion dollars so far this term in doing so.

@cw I left nike for this reason, it was a good run..... it's too bad, I enjoyed working there

I'd probably still be there but decided to leave Portland too..... both the city and Nike went downhill fast

I intend to carry the proud American flag in cities that respect me and my country

What a defeatist attitude...and during the week celebrating our country's 250th year of FREEDOM, LIBERTY, and INDEPENDENCE, too!

Shame on you for just giving up, sitting there and taking it, letting these sh!theads steamroll over you. The people who founded and industrialized and defended the USA had grit, determination, were strong, and fought against tyranny and oppression...you should show your gratefulness and honor their legacy by at LEAST continuing on in that way of being in your everyday life...and that includes the workplace.

Get off your pity pot, and nail these sc-mb@gs who are illegally stacking the deck while trying to overtake your very livelihood, and all around way of life here in America! Report and prosecute them!

They are serious about taking everything they can from you, and doing away with all American citizens, so we are left with no jobs and no country of our own.
That's not hyperbole, that's their literal collective goal.

Are you seriously NOT going to fight back to defend yourself, your loved ones, and your country??!!

ya, they are moving jobs to itc, big surprise, and yes, most people laid off were local white dudes

and the campus is now little india

white people will call me racist for posting this, but they are the same white people that got laid off

the truth is, the management is from india, they are moving jobs there, most indians retained their jobs

many female indian workers are clearly operating below expectations, but they kept their jobs

do the math, fair, no. can anyone do anything about it, no.

find a new job or deal with it, unfortunately

Plenty of people who are currently employed at Nike lurk and post here, and they are able to file official complaints about these unfair and illegal business practices both internally within the company, as well as official federal complaints with the proper federal authorities.

Anyone that was laid off and signed the package also signed away their ability to sue for discrimination.

Seems like HR has reason to believe this may be the case

"RA & VA have this company by the ba--s."

It doesn't have to be that way.
YOU can do something about it.
As the other post's links prove, there are legal avenues you can avail yourself of (anonymously) which can stop all of this in its tracks.
Report any and all instances of this happening that you see in the workplace.

You and everyone else who is witnessing this sh!t have to TAKE ACTION.
This isn't about worying about maintaining "PC advocacy", or "race relations".
It isn't about anything to make a liberal's heartstrings feel "empathy" to the point of looking the other way without putting a stop to what's MORALLY and ILLEGALLY WRONG.
It's about seeing this for what it is, and putting a STOP to it, before getting bulldozed into oblivion!

This is YOUR country!
This is YOUR RIGHT to assert yourself, and insist that you not be overtaken by corruption!
Do your part to put a STOP to it NOW!

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good wo/men do nothing."

Caste system?? Lol, I mean, id say that’s the third filtering mechanism here…

It first starts with if you’re something other than Indian. Yes? Let us gas light you.

Next, are you an FTE or ETW? ETW, you’re just a means to an end. Not sure if your last name is even looked at.

Then is where skin tone/last name/state comes into play.

If people truly knew how f’d the tech stack is here. People should care more since you use tech systems to make any sort of decision. RA & VA have this company by the ba--s.

What you've described is illegal, and should be reported to the proper authorities.
Start by making a formal complaint with HR (which let's face it, is just a formality, since they are guilty of/complicit in allowing this to perpetuate, if they just let it go on, unchecked) and also go straight to the FEDERAL level.

You might just be able to not only stop this behavior from continuing to happen by having such miscreants either professionally reprimanded, demoted, or fired; but in some cases, DEPORTED.

Who exactly are these people, anyway?
Where did they come from, and under which circumstances?
If they're so casual and arrogant about breaking labor laws on the regular, they'd be just as likely to have no respect for/break immigration laws as well!

Name them, report their actions, and get all guilty parties prosecuted.
Enough of this garbage.
The USA has laws, rules, and regulations which must be adhered to.
Discrimination in the workplace is prohibited.
Anyone not following the rules can GTFO!

Are you new here? Caste has always been a huge factor in hiring/promotions. I personally know of a few people who su-k at their jobs but their management doesn’t do anything because of the caste power dynamic.

@OP the short answer is NO. No one cares about all this and you should move past it too.
