Elon just wants to be the first person on Mars. He doesn't care about any industry or products that won't help with that.
Let's look at his resume:
He's got self-driving, battery operated cars.
He's got a tunnel boring company.
He's got a satellite based communications array.
He's got robots.
He's got rockets.
What does AT&T got? Plano? A football stadium? Fiber? 5G? Oh, and the majority of our people that are still here are terrible 5x8 clock who banter about layoffs and RTO.
Nope. Elon doesn't want you.
Pay attention, SpaceX acquired another orbital slot in lower Earth Orbit complete with added spectrum. To me that signals an improved link budget that may even dare I say, provide the margin required to hold up a traditional cell network and compete with terrestrial resources. When SpaceX announced in 2015 I raised concerns in a (regional) meeting about SpaceX competing with our network. It was quickly dismissed….. here we are……
He just needs the spectrum. He doesn’t give a damn about anything else. Don’t be an id--t.
He is going to have a commons problem regarding spectrum that he may choose to attack using aggressive M&A. You are correct he would not care about anything else in a telecom's portfolio.
