I know this has been discussed on this board already, but I find it shocking that Verizon is stopping so low as too getting excited about scrapping metal. The plan is that Verizon will sell some of the Central Offices and then "scrap" metal harvested from the CO's. My SD is gloating that this will be a good revenue source for Verizon. Are we really getting that desperate?

Post 9/11 there were dumpsters outside of West Street full of copper. Estimated value of 1 million each 26 years ago. They had armed security guarding it. If you think them selling dead copper is not a smart move, you are wrong.
Verizon scrapping out metal for money has been going on a long time. During the 4G transistion to Remote Radio Heads a lot of 1.5 inch transmission line was removed from towers, cut up in sections and returned to a VZ warehouse facility where it was eventually sold for scrap.
A word to the wise. Don't risk a good paying VZ job, just for a few extra bucks in your pocket selling their scrap.
Estate Sale: EVERYTHING MUST GO!!!
Make an offer.
Could be lucrative.
We might get 5G'$
If they start selling the furniture, watch out.
@ad To save money. 80% of Vz fiber was just lashed to copper. The new build outs going on now aren’t doing that .
@ar There is a reason why thieves are stealing all of the copper cables. VZ finally caught on and decided to start harvesting the cable ourselves and turning it into cash. Now if we can only get everyone to stop cutting fiber cables thinking they are copper.
There is miles and miles of old copper out there. Not just in CO. Copper is at all time high. So they will be selling it for a nice profit.
Verizon pays taxes on the copper that is in the ground. When the copper is reclaimed, Verizon no longer has to pay the tax. The tax savings here really adds up over time.
Dan is melting those stupid purpose coins for their melt value. its called Project Penny Pincher. every penny counts plus the people who received them were mostly bad for the company
@OP What an id--t! That “scrap metal” gets them a ton of money. You guys will complain about everything
News flash. Once most of the office goes fiber why leave the copper up? How much copper has been stolen off the poles and sold for the value by thieves?
@aa I’m not the one who stopped recycling and then rediscovered it. Again id--ts in charge claiming to discovered a new “revenue source”. Same thing as rediscovering fios. Verizon does not get credit for restarting what they should have never stopped. #raaataardincharge
I guess you don't realize there is billions of dollars in the retired copper cables. Years ago NYNEX owned a recycling plant. Every day cable mining is being done and it adds up to hundreds of millions a year given the price of copper.
We have had 10 billion savings programs since Lowell and they will never stop because in between them there will be some purchases for ventures that waste money that initially are cheered for great profits to come. The one thing we are great at and they just need to stick to is building and maintaining networks
Perhaps they can use some of the salvaged scrap metal to construct a bunch of "tin cans on a string" contraptions, for their next latest and greatest telcom product rollout!
Envision the TikTok unboxings...
STOOPING...And they always scrap removals to make room for fiber build....
The real sheep are “assdirector” and up who never question the legitimacy of some of these ideas. Wait till the bumble frock of Verizon ai is unleashed. These fools in charge are baahaaalosers
