Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Is it just me?

Without offering too much, I am on the wireless side. I am not a tech or an engineer or a manager and I have not been in an office since covid.

I don't have a crystal ball but I can track patterns and have an instinct when the patterns tell me something is brewing.

For the first time since I have been with Verizon, on the day before a holiday, any holiday, we did not get an email wishing us a happy holiday and we did not get an early release.

I've never expected it but it has also never not happened. A break in the pattern.

In fact, I did not see a single meeting scheduled nor did I get a single email or slack message from anyone about anything.

More than once I thought my network connection had dropped but I did see a green dot next to the most of the people on my team other than the manager.

Did anyone else experience this and does this seem odd?

Silence is deafening sometimes.

I am glad people are here though. Even the trolls.

@b1 Good to hear. And you may be right. A couple of weeks ago, on the first meeting with the new London management, or was it Ireland, we were thanked for supporting them. I thought wait, who was here first and doing this for years? I wondered if that meant the US side was getting fully moved off shore. We didn't even know who they were or when they were handed control. It had to have been in the last few months. But I haven't spoken to anyone in inventory that knew where they came from. It just happened without fanfare. I don't make a habit up checking my upline on the contacts page but sure enough there was a big shuffle and names I had seen for years at the top were gone. EVP and SVP. I have heard many times, "Communication is our business, not our practice".

@af What’s so controversial about it?

@OP We got the email wishing us a happy holiday, as well as the early release.
OP, if I were you, I'd be concerned?

Been at the company over a decade and I haven't received messages like this for at least half of my tenure. I fully recognize my leadership is useless and incompetent. It's actually refreshing to hear others had better experiences. I am trying to get out of here as fast as I can, but the market is rough out there.

@af Respectfully, aren't all holidays controversial to someone? I am a proud American no matter who is in office. I still remember how big a deal it was in 1976 for the 200th. IMHO, a milestone like the 250th should be important to everyone in the US, especially those who are displeased if not for the fact that they can scream their displeasure without fear of retaliation. Try that in a number of other countries and see where it gets you. For that matter, try that at Verizon and see where it gets you. I got on a vpn routed through the other side of the world and I'm on a secure browser with no trackers and I still don't know that V won't try to figure it out. The V laptop is so loaded down with spyware that if I pass gas they can tell what I had for lunch.

@ad That's encouraging. The 6th person above me is the man, himself. The 4th is our newest SVP, from London, who sent out an email and early dismissal before memorial day. I didn't even know we had been moved under a team that was not in the states until that email hit. But since that is the case, maybe he feels some kinda way about our independence? Is it still too soon? LOL

I guess the realization that I came to that I didn't think to mention is that previously they at least pretended to care and went through the motions but today felt like, nah... forget all of you, forget your holiday, we won't even acknowledge that you came in today.

It seems to me that that says more than when they actually fake it and go through the motions.

too many people are stressed and all we hear from leadership is do your job. they have no clue what the average working is going through because they roll in their millions
