Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Jump the ship while you can

I spoke to two very high-level leaders. Very high level. VP and above. Great people. Smart people. They both told me the exact same thing: “Jump ship while you still can.” Nobody told them to say it. They both said it. Think about that.

Morale? It’s gone. Absolutely gone. I’ve never heard it this bad. The best people—the really talented people—they’re going to leave first. They always do because they have options. They’ll get another job in a heartbeat. No problem.

And then who’s left? Not the A-team. You’re left with the people who couldn’t leave. That’s what happens. And once that starts, it goes very fast. Much faster than people think. The decline accelerates. People are going to look back and say, “How did it fall apart so quickly?” Believe me, it won’t be pretty.

@cj That's what scares me too. I want to get my 6 figure payout at least for 13 years of service. But I feel theyre going to sc--w us on that

Problem is the wrong people are impacted. If leadership really wants to turn things around they need to soul search and look at the Sr Director level. There’s your major problem. They are all safe and incompetent at what they do. Trust me I’ve been here long enough to see. It’s not about quality of work anymore it’s about who you can socialize with.

I never understood people who say jump ship while you still can. There is never a time that you can't. At least with a RIF you get severance to buffer your job hunt.

there is no actual leadership. there is highly paid "people" asking Perplexity for the next word salad they should post. Look at the announcements for N&T and then GTS. Both read 100% when checking for AI content. Both are devoid any actual vision, direction, plan.
So if you can find another job in this economy, absolutely, jump on it. But if you are like the vast majority of us and the job market is just bleak, then settle down, continue to pretend to work, and collect a pay check until you get your severance package. That seems to be what most people I interact with clearly are doing.

@cj That is a common rumor that in my 30+ years has never happened. In fact, when the ESG org. in Verizon merged with MCI Worldcom to form the first Verizon Business they INCREASED the severance to 52 weeks circa 2006-7

The real problem is leaders are bad , situation is bad and they are coming up with the same old tired ideas it’s not encouraging

One thing we can always count on here is change - my big concern is that they will start to cut back on the severance packages and offer less money to leave---- it wouldn't surprise me

Nice try, Dan. If I must go, I'll be taking my severance, thank you.

When is the next WOW event? I can’t wait for the company to fly our best and brightest (excluding all men of course) to HQ to party and make the best besties and frenemies. Our culture OS is built on a strong foundation of post it notes, photoshoots, LinkedIn humble brags and results that speak for themselves. I can’t wait to build the future at scale - together!!!!

I was laid off in May, already have a new job with a company that’s growing and not shrinking. There is life after this god forsaken company.

Sounds very serious. Maybe the most serious. Everyone’s talking about it. Very high-level people. The best people.

But I’ve seen this movie before. Everybody says, “I’m leaving!” Then six months later they’re still on the same Teams call… discussing the next reorg. Amazing. Nobody does reorganizations like Verizon.

We’ll see what happens. Maybe they’re right. Maybe they’re not. But people are watching. Believe me.
