Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

July layoff???

There's been a lot of speculation about Verizon's plans, with some sources saying there will be a layoff on July 16 and others claiming the company is looking to hire more staff. Does anyone have any concrete information on this?

@dt back in the old days first level managers where those that supervised union represented employees. 2nd levels managed those foreman / supervisors.

A second liner in construction in New Jersey?? That would be a guy they pay to mess a lot of things up... run everything into the ground and then act like he knows everything and is the smartest person in Verizon. And most of his uppers believe him..we are doomed!

@OP I can only speak for construction in New Jersey.. but I believe there are at least three or four second liners that cover construction.. frontier is now coming in saying they have one construction second liner to cover multiple states

@a9 the layoff in November was well documented and the biggest layoff in company history. The employee numbers are going down year over year for almost a decade. Keep drinking the kool-aid but don’t say you weren’t warned.

A standard EISP generally influences only those already considering retirement. To incentivize employees with two or more years remaining, the package would need to include a minimum of two years of salary and guaranteed medical coverage through Medicare eligibility.

@c9 you won’t get a lot of senior people to jump on a buyout when the payout equates to the healthcare costs they assume now that weren’t there 3-4 years ago . Unless pre Medicare healthcare costs are addressed … people are gonna be afraid to leave .. they’ve seen cost go from 75 to 400 a month for single …. So unless people are in their 60’s already there’s too large a risk jumping early if you ask me . Otherwise they would have left on packages 5 years ago

@c9 I think you are confusing multiple things. Op is asking about a potential layoff on June 26th and also rumors of hiring. There is no “offer” for management, they have and will continue to do Rifs.

As far as a “huge offer” & “ willing to replace with new hires as per the contract” that would be the union side of things. That would be the rumored (but it’s coming) EISP, and they HAVE to hire regardless per the contract extension, there is no “willing”

According to future director Chris Brown. Company wants to get rid of more senior people. A huge offer is coming.
They are willing to replace with new hires as per the contract.

@OP you apparently haven't worked there long enough to see their hiring patterns. verizon only hires end of 4th quarter to start training in 1st and 2 quarters.

When the same date keeps getting mentioned, 7/16, the rumors usually tend to be true. It makes sense to get employees off payroll before the August vacation distribution. Also interesting that this is Hammock’s last week. I guess she didn’t want to stick around for the next big round.

Based on history both are happening. They term full time employees then hire contractors for available spots. Looks like being contracted is where its at.

So use that brain of yours. Which do you think is more likely?

One word.. bloodbath. Good news, there is life after Verizon. Use your limited time with the company to utilize the get certified program and have them pay for training. You will be okay.
